This is the hedge. I don't need the right hand side so I could reduce it's width by almost half.
If the right side doesn't bother you, then don't look for a job
I didn't say the right side doesn't bother me, I said I don't need it.
It bothers me when I have to cut the top of an 8ft wide hedge.

While we're discussing the shortcomings of the Internet, I like to read the news but all the sites I visit seem to invite me to watch a video for the majority of stories.

I did look at that and was trying to work out how you do it. I have a beast of a thornbush that I cut every year. It seems to grow more voraciously with each passing year and has the beating over my underpowered hedge trimmer.
I have a precarious step ladder, but end up leaning over to the point where I am just the right side of overbalancing. My arms end up geting shredded to bits, but hey, there are a couple of nests in it each year so I don't have the heart to do away completely with the bastard.
PS How the feck has it grown so big this year when everything else other than that, and assorted weeds, has been crippled with the heat and drought?

I don't use a step ladder, as you say they are very precarious. What I do is lean a proper ladder against the hedge and then lean accross and cut the side furthest away from me (With a chainsaw) then I take the ladder to the opposite side and cut the side I just left.
I seem to have made that as confusing as possible.
What you need is one of these. I bought one from Aldi a couple of years ago not expecting much but its been great.

I've got a whole bunch of conifers along the side of my house in a neighbours garden. I had a bit of a subsidence issue and although the neighbour wouldn't take them down, we were able to cut them back pretty savagely on our side. Most survive with a decent greenery on his side. One or two are brown on his side too which I presume is a result of what we did
That's good intel. How long ago was this Glen?
Ooh, it was a while ago, 3-4 years

When I was a boy, on the very rare occasion when we had a day off my dad would explain, "No work today, we're having one for the Queen."

BBC coverage is exactly the tone you would expect, ITV is a bit more "chatty" CNN is, like, American man.

I am a big fan of WW2 stuff , was fascinated by the sheer size of this bunker.
Some really interesting videos and future places to visit.
Thought you might enjoy it Tom.

Right up my street. Thanks Boo.
Some fascinating stuff on that channel,so much that i didn't know.
My Grandfather was one of the Commando's on Sword beach so it was interesting to view the German defensive positions from the beach to Caen.
