Ahem...

I don't even understand the answer.

On average how often would it happen?

Once every (_________) times.

9462/1 = once every 9462 times

I don't even understand the answer.

The first card can be anything.

With the second card there are 51 left in the deck. 3 of these are bad (the other three of whatever the first card was) which means there are 48 good ones, hence 48/51.

With the third card there are 50 left, and 6 bad ones (three matching the first card and three the second), meaning 44 good ones, thus 44/50.

Next one, 49 left, 9 bad ones, 40 good ones and 40/49.

By now the pattern is clear, so you can extrapolate to twelve terms and do the sums.

Right, next....

I'm a bit long sighted, so when I'm playing poker on my lappy, I tend to sit well back. This means that when I want to bet an exact amount, I have to lean forward so that I can reach the keyboard because the slider (Stars) only bets in multiples of the blind.

Is there a way around this?

Go go gadget arms.

Andrew, I'm finally dragging you down to my level.

Seriously though. Why can't they have an on-screen number pad or chips of different denominations that you click on or something?

Right - attempt 2

48/51 x 44/50 x 40/49 x 36/48 x 32/47 x 28/46 x 24/45 x 20/44 x 16/43 x 12/42 x 8/41 x 4/40

=0.00010568

=0.010568%

Usual caveats apply Smiley

0.000105680993713382 to be precise

I think the pure method would be to use combinations.  There are 4^13 combinations of unpaired 13 card groups and you divide this by the total number of 13 card combinations in 52 cards.

Yes, that's much tidier.
