difficult to not respect the guy after watching this

http://www.channel4.com/programmes/the-search-for-the-northwest-passage/4od

Think I need to go visit Foyles, or Waterstones, & get into all this, what with the Northwest Passage, & tales of incredible heroics by Scott & his team. And we complain if the aircon needs turning up at work....

Tom, did you see the Kevin Fong documentaries: "To Boldly Go"?  Only a two-part thing on BBC, but well worth a watch.

Cheers Kin.

Does it matter if I watch Stargazing out of sync?

Not really - unless you're planning on joining in with the stargazing yourself.

In 1933, renowned author F. Scott Fitzgerald ended a letter to his 11-year-old daughter, Scottie, with a list of things to worry about, not worry about, and simply think about. It read as follows.

    Things to worry about:

    Worry about courage
    Worry about cleanliness
    Worry about efficiency
    Worry about horsemanship

    Things not to worry about:

    Don’t worry about popular opinion
    Don’t worry about dolls
    Don’t worry about the past
    Don’t worry about the future
    Don’t worry about growing up
Don’t worry about anybody getting ahead of you
    Don’t worry about triumph
Don’t worry about failure unless it comes through your own fault
    Don’t worry about mosquitoes
    Don’t worry about flies
Don’t worry about insects in general
    Don’t worry about parents
    Don’t worry about boys
    Don’t worry about disappointments
    Don’t worry about pleasures
    Don’t worry about satisfactions

    Things to think about:

What am I really aiming at?
How good am I really in comparison to my contemporaries in regard to:

    (a) Scholarship
    (b) Do I really understand about people and am I able to get along with them?
    (c) Am I trying to make my body a useful instrument or am I neglecting it?

    With dearest love,

    Daddy

Hmm.... Can't say I agree with him much Rich. "Don't worry about your parents, but worry about horsemanship"?

He was drunk most of the time though.

Questions about Captain Francesco Schettino are still taxing me.

How much does the Captain of such a vessel earn?

How is he chosen?

What kind of licence does he require, and what standard of competence does he have to achieve, is he re-tested on a regular basis?

In light of the fact that he has 10 times as many lives in his hands, is the test for cruise liner Captains at least as rigorous as that for airline pilots?

How come such obvious character flaws as his haven't become evident before now?

Not if, as in my case, the answer is 'No' to both questions.

EDIT:  I've decided to add a  Wink (I'm not as brave as Mantis)

Vancouver Sun‎ - 3 hours ago
Transcripts of the initial contact after the ship hit the rocks show the crew in denial.

No wonder they crashed, they should have been in the Med.
