It's Tracy without an e BTW. His father, (my brother) was named after a character in a television series

Interesting but I doubt it's a Gypsy thing. I would like to see the headstone.

Was pulled up today for using Gypsy, and told the World Roma Congress have declared it a slur.

Have things changed?

Hi Rod.

That's the first I've heard of it to be honest. (The deceleration I mean) I do know that in some countries the Roma don't like to be called Gypsy but British Gypsies are proud to be called that. We would never take offence at being called Gypsy, the trouble is, it's usually "Dirty gypsy"  "Thieving gypsy" "Gyppo" or "Pikey"

You have to bear in mind that congress is just a fancy word for committee. Although well intentioned, they mistakenly think they understand everything and can speak for everyone.

Local news is reporting plans to investigate making Appleby Horse Fair a ticketed event, or find an out of town site.

I would be surprised if they manage to make it ticketed, it's there by royal charter.

If they do make it ticketed, I will be even more surprised if anyone pays.

Still, after what has happened in the last few years, nothing should surprise me.

The Royal Charter seems to be a bit of a legendary status. But the sense of tradition and history is there nonetheless.

I’ve always assumed that the positives of the fair outweighed any downside. I would be surprised if the locals come to any other conclusion.

Considering the attendance numbers, 10000 Gypsies and 30000 general public, I think the arrest numbers are impressive

I’d agree.

Do you still attend Tom?

Clearly not judging by the number of arrests

Not regularly David. I've probably been half a dozen times in the last 20 years.
