this exact excerpt Red is the link you need to understand.
I decide sod this, off comes the jacket, sleeves rolled up, ground flattened down a bit, legs moving a little. I shoot like a i shoot pidgeon, im not a driven shot, i dont have the luxury or shooting driven game 50 days a year. Im a poacher, a ducker, my experience is with trying to take the woodie crossing the hedgerow trying not to be spotted, poking and stabbing neat shots rather than the graceful elegant slow long swings of the best shots in the country.
Artful dodger/Scarlet pimpernel.
The style is brilliant Alex love it.
The bit I've highlighted in pokerfan's post has Dinged me Andrew. Can you explain that next please?
I think he means that this passage shows that Alex shoots the same way he plays poker - ie it's the link between this and his poker.
So, by contrast, if Tikay did a post about shooting he would describe how he sat in a field for 14 hours with a bag open waiting for a bird to wander into it and go to sleep.

The idea is to make the living room as clutter free as possible, we are getting a crate (was going to build something but found a cheap 2nd hand one) which we will put in the corner of the room, its the warmest part. We have avoided replacing the old couch thats on its last legs so if any accidents occur we wont be upset, plus if the puppy is a biter we wont get mad when she rips the corners of the settee!
We are lucky in that we dont have carpets in the new place so any accidents can be cleaned up without too much fuss. we also got a stand for the tv, dvd etc etc which blocks access to any wires behind. Finally we have a fire guard to stop any misadventure!
Not sure of what else to do but would love tips from any puppy/dog owners out there!

She's stunning Sov, I must meet her one day.
Don't listen to all that old pony about keeping her shut away indoors until she's finished her vaccinations. take her out asap, just don't put her on the ground.
Carry her around, stand near busy roads, children's playgrounds, noisy machinery, talk to strangers etc. Another great thing is to just sit in the car with her for a few mins each day.
Let her experience as many things as you can. It will be fun for you both and it will pay off big time when she's older, she will have seen it all before. Nothing will phase her, she will be bomb proof.

Puppies learn from experience, you can't remove all danger forever. As long as she can't kill herself, she will be fine.

That would never work - the snoring would frighten any bird off.

Great advice thank you Red, regarding the 'puppy proofing' we are more protecting our things than her tbh! We are picking her up on the 17th, so expect lots of photos and questions then! The place we have moved to is wonderful for dogs, a few feet from our front door is a big park, we also have lots of countryside a stones throw away so she is going to get plenty of fresh air and lots of long walks!
I'm like a big kid at christmas!

Alex - thanks for that Post - it's stunning.
Why do you write in that weird fashion about poker, then a totally different style when it comes to Country Pursuits?

Alex - thanks for that Post - it's stunning.
Why do you write in that weird fashion about poker, then a totally different style when it comes to Country Pursuits?
poker is a relatively complex game. rather than use 10 word sentances, abbreviations and shorthand make it easier and quicker to read. when you spend a huge chunk of time talking, discussing and learning about the game there are phrases that make discussion quicker and easier and get your point across to the people you are trying to target. For example by saying "a 18/14/3 3bets me pre from my COo and im not sure what to do with KQ because of reverse implied odds oop" i have given all the information needed to the people i am trying to get a response from. Not in a malicious way, but if someone doesnt understand what im on about then they probably dont play the same games i do and therefore their input wont be as useful, i play low and midstakes cash games afterall, wheras many of the pha board are purely mtt players.
countryside pursuits are a different ballgame, they are not my job, they are my hobby and i get immense satisfaction from them on a different level. I guess my writing style is different because of the nature of how i enjoy both, but view one as a technical art that im attempting to master and the other as pure indulgence in the natural world.
basically, i want to sound down with the kids.
