As underlined by Jman's previous well, they can be extremely beneficial if the occupant puts some time into it and knows what they are on about. If the occupant happens to have some mildly interesting things to say about things other than poker then all the better.
Thing is, Jman or Aejones don't play the games that the users of this forum do. Over on boards.ie we have put some of the regs in the well - and continue to do so on an intermittant basis. It has generally proved to be a good learning experience (as well as entertaining!!). You don't need to play nosebleed for it to be worthwile.
Maybe it would be worthwile doing a couple with the regs over here?

from 2+2 A stranger is being shown around a village that he has just become part of. He is shown a well and his guide says "On any day except Saturday, you can shout any question down that well and you'll be told the answer" .
The man seems pretty impressed, and so he shouts down: Why not on Saturday? and the voice from in the well shouts back: Because on Saturday, it’s your day in the well.
basically a way for someone to give back to the community by answering any questions that are thrown at them, both on and off topic but mainly poker related

Yeah i like the idea. I can think of some good people on here to do it. how is that different from what we are doing here?
please explain for the unfamiliar
Instead of simply asking general questions to a wide audience. You get to know someones thoughts on a wide range subjects that just wouldn't come up in other circumstances. It is not simply a poker topic either it is views on everything and anything, so would probably interest the wider blonde community.

[ ] OP worded his post well
I am suggesting that we start some well threads with some of the high volume posters on the hand analysis forum. - The person doing the well would have to give prior consent; - Each well thread would begin with five or so stock questions; - People would then be allowed to ask what questions they saw fit - both poker and non - poker related; - The person doing the well can decide not to answer certain questions if he feels uncomfortable with the nature of the question; - Anyone who uses such threads as an opportunity to flame, insult or take the piss gets the banstick thrown in their direction; From the threads I have seen before on other forums (I did one myself on boards.ie) they can make for a very good read.

Sound's good to me. Some poker insight from the player, and some insight of the player as well.

Stock questions could be debated and people could settle on what they would prefer. Something like:
- What is your current profession / place of employment? - What stakes / games are you currently playing? - How many hours a week do you play on average? - Do you ever play live? If so, what games do you generally play and how much per month on average would you play? - Are you running well of late?
Just to set the tone of the well and let people know whether their poker related question is relevant or not. After that, ask away.
