'the 8 division winners and the two best placed teams aside from that make the play offs..a knock out seeded comp that runs post season through to the superbowl'

Ah, thank you..simple really, i thought it's be something like that.
How do the wild cards work though, the 2 best places teams aside from divisional winners play against who, the 2 worst divisional winners?

Did anyone get tickets to the London game in the first lottery this week?

I'd have loved too but wouldn't have anyone to go with as none of my friends watch it Sad
I wanna watch a game in america some time soon though, as soon as i can really...

each conference: Play offs

4 div winners

the two teams with the next best records

those two play the two division winners with the poorest records in the wild card round

the best two get a bye week

in effect therefore quarters, semis and a final for each conf then a superbowl

the teams with the best record get home field advantage, which can be crucial..eg Green Bay in January.....

or that fantastic snow game in Cleveland late last year

I get it.

4 winners in AFC
2 next best from others in AFC
4 winners in NFC
2 next best from others in NFC

And winners of AFC playoffs play winners of NFC playoff in ze superbowl.

ship it.

cant wait for the new seaon, still a long way off though, the beauty about the nfl, no team ever dominates for a very long period, i follow the 49rs, have done since the early 80s, they where the man utd of the mid 80s to early 90 and i still think the best team ever in the late 80s , now there the derby county, so no matter who you choose to support they will come good some time and fade away, its a fair system they have set up , weaker teams can get great players so in theory squads get stronger and weaker over a period of time,,they can afford to do this as there is no relegation and in the long run its good for the game,

got it.

The Powerhouses are, recently

The New England Patriots
The Indianapolis Colts
The San Diego Chargers

in the Afc

and in the NFC

the Cowboys/Redskins/Giants/Eagles rivalry is huge in the same divsion

the Green Bay Packers are the old style traditional teram, in the same division as the Chicago Bears

Also rans..badly managed/underperforming for ages now:

Oakland Raiders, Detroit Lions, the Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, Cincinnati Bengals etc etc

the beauty of it is though that this turns v v quickly with a good management teram, good talent drafting etc

Green Bay won the first two, coached by legendary Vince Lombardi

At the time it was the NFL and the AFL (until Superbowl 5 actually when the teams were in the AFC and the NFC when the NFL bought out the AFL)

After GB won the first two, and Lombardi retired, they made the Lombardi trophy which the superbowl winners play for to this day, and developed the concept of the superbowl

Tighty will probably correct me, I think it was called the superbowl from the get go. The newly formed AFL formed early 60's, champions played the older NFL (formed post world war 1) champions played each other for the first time in 66. The first two games were not close at all Green Bay won both but the superbowl 3 was a massive shock. At that point the leagues amalgamated to form todays NFL with the old AFL becoming the AFC and the old NFL teams becoming the AFC.

I have been a Dolphins since a pretty early age (about 5) after watching a game on where the Dolphins beat the previously unbeaten Bears in a Monday night game. At the time they were a very attractive team with a shoddy defence, no running game but a brilliant offensive line, receivers and of course Dan Marino at qb.

My dad got me into it and he is totally obsessive about the sport. My interest has waned in recent years but got back into a bit last season.
