Serial raiser UTG does their usual and raises about 5 times the blind to 500 I think.

It's only the first level of the game (blinds 50/100) and I've not seen a flop yet, so have starting stack.

I'm on the button and find    Not ideal, I know, but I've got the chips to make the call and decide to see a flop.

Flop comes down Q 9 4 rainbow.  Serial raiser shoves the chips all in and has me covered.  It's a STT with a small buy in.  Do you make the call and take your chances...or fold?

One of the first things we learn is to play the opposite way to our oppos. So making a loose pre-flop call against a loose opponent is a strategy to avoid imo. By making a marginal pre-flop call you set yourself up for an awkward marginal decision on the flop, like this one. Having the chips to call pre-flop isn't a good enough reason to make the call imo.

UTG man shows us he isn't afraid to jam the flop for 12k after betting 500 so with plenty of time ahead I would trap with stronger.

To be fair, I suppose I should give you the missing pieces to this puzzle.

The venue - local pub

Time of day - 11pm  (He'd been in said pub since 5pm.)

Have you finally come to your senses then Duke?   You're just cross because I stole most of yer chips that hand.

For the next hour or more, he decided a nap was in order.  Slept on the shoulder of the woman next to him.  Until I woke him and he shook his head again in disbelief over the call.

Against the Duke. Re-raise pre ~1200

You have to get the chips before someone else does
