I, as im sure many of you have, been accused of being a gambler.....i personally think i am not..

I love to play poker which I do twice a week at Luton G and have a good craic win or lose.and pokerstars although a lot less recently

I have never lost money playing poker overall and am roughly + £20K .
I do not play the table games in the casino and on the recent jolly boys outing to vegas i once again was not tempted by the tables or the flashing lights of the fruit machines ( none hold any interest for me )

But for all this i have been villified by family and associates as a degenerate gambler to a point where it was mentioned as a main point ,and used against me ,of my ongoing messy divorce (believe me theres more to that story)

So my question is are tehy right ?...am i a gambler ( as i see poker as a significant skill game ) and if not where is the definition line drawn ?

It's a good question and im sure all poker players get the same accusations.

I protest my innocence non stop but to no avail.

Playing poker in casinos shows they believe you to be as bad as any other gambler considering in Stoke they give you 30 mins breaks during mtts to entice you onto the deadly roulette wheel - a trap most do fall into, the non smokers anyway.

Your family like mine considers any from of putting money down on a bet, no matter the size or the situation, as gambling and thats it.

What can u do eh?

One of those people that think ooo euro millions, 150 million to one, but ill have a tenners worth.

Offer them 7/1 on a horse who is a shoe in and they'd not even put a quid on it.

That seals it for me, I dont do the lottery i must be a gambler, Pity

Yes.
It is obv. different to roulette / BJ etc.. but it is still gambling.

I have never lost money playing poker overall and am roughly + £20K .

Just because you are winning doesn't mean it isn't gambling - just prob. gambling with the odds more in your favour.

FK 'em, that what I always say about this one...Fk'em right in the ear.

I'll have a bet on the footie, horses and poker..that's all I touch and they are all areas of gambling where you can limit your risk by studying it..sure it's gambling..so is crossing the road..BUT if you look both way before you do you limit the risk of getting run over.

The only thing that matters is if you are a problem/degen Gambler or not- if your playing within your bankroll/means then its fine as long as you know you can stay in controll come a large a losing streak

Sigh...so i am a gambler....

I still find it ironic that even with poker now in the mainstream...all over the telly etc..it is still frowned upon by the majority..usually those who have never played and are far too ignorant to get any evidence to support their ivory tower views
