Saving Mr Banks 10/10

I must have seen Mary Poppins 100 times as a child because it's my sisters favourite film. This film manages to catch everything that was magical about that film, while also telling an equally captivating new story. Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson are both amazing.

I have a feeling Hanks will be nominated for both Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars. He has managed to put out the best two films I have seen in years within a month of each other.

The documentry by Vicky Coren last night on this was great..Nothing like the book!

Emma Thompson in Saving Mr Banks and Judi Dench in Philomena...two more masterclasses to add to Tom Hanks' work in Capt Phillips.

Winter is good for two reasons, cinema and cox's apples.

You really did get a sense that she was totally owning the film in the first two or three minutes. It might simply be because she was telling people off for being American, which is always fun.

1 Drive

2 Argo

3 Life of Pi

4 Silver Linings Playbook

Was randomly trawling through this thread and you recommended the four films above, aside from Argo, the other three are up there as my favourites from recent years.

Feel like we got off on a wrong foot with my aversion to Argo and Captain Phillips. Cheesy

Just watched The Lives of Others (2006), about an East German spy in the mid eighties having to spy on a writer and his girlfriend.

It is very good and gets a solid 7.5/10 from me.

Watched out of the furnace last night. Was really excited as the cast was pretty insane and I had read a couple of decent reviews. Christian Bale, the better Affleck, Woody Harrelson, Willem Defoe and Forest Whitaker.

Acting is incred, speshly from Casey Affleck, Woody and Bale. Starts off well but the plot which the majority of the film is based around is piss poor, like really really bad. The middle to end was just pathetic. I could of written a better storyline with 7 minutes notice. It left me feeling angry.

8.5/10 acting 2/10 storyline overall I will give it a 6/10. I am just about to watch 'Harsh times' for the 10th time, which I would recommend if you are a Bale fan or if you enjoyed 'Training day'.

Watching Don Jon tonight. Directed, written by and starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Hoping it's a good un.

Need to squeeze in Anchorman 2 at some point as well as finish my quota of this year's xmas movies I have left to watch; Joyeux noel, polar express and The Griswolds, also not seen Arthur christmas so will give that a go.

Ahhhh films. What would life be without them? Shit, that's what it would be like!

There aren't many sequels that live up to or even surpass the first film but Anchorman 2 sets the bar so much higher. From start to finish the laughs kept coming hard and fast ending in such a crazy surreal scene with loads of Hollywood stars.

Leave your brain at home.

Watched Blackfish earlier this week http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackfish_%28film%29

Thought it was very interesting, but obviously very one sided, and I would guess the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

Also watched 'Mike Tyson - Undisputed Truth'

It's a one man show, which involves Mike Tyson talking about his life from childhood through to present day. Directed by Spike Lee, it's pretty well put together, Tyson does a great job of telling his story, and it's LOL funny at times too.

It's not all laughs though, some pretty heavy moments too.

Had my cinema experience of this film Andrew Marred, by this woman in the front row laughing everytime Steve Carrell's character was about to speak, threw me off my game completely and it needs a re-watch.

There was one scene with Meagan Good in her office with all of the familiar faces that had me in stitches, but it was through the eyes of a man already robbed of his often consistent jovial nature.
