Loved the Imitiation game

A rich compelling story, Cumberbatch is brilliant too, terrific nuanced performance

--

Hunger games mocking jay 1. saw the previous two, were ok. Like Jennifer lawrence. just as this film was setting up for the denouement it ended and i remembered there is a final film to come

odd, why not make it a three hour single film by better editing?

Went to see Paddington yesterday and thought it was excellent.

I laughed all the way through. Bonneville does blustering Englishman better than anyone while Kidman is delightfully wicked. Strong supporting cast - Capaldi was particularly funny but also enjoyed the smaller cameos.

The bear steals the show obviously. The big set pieces he is at the centre of are great and the CGI looks perfect. The story is heartwarming but never seemed overly sentimental.

Really enjoyed it.

FURY

The latest Brad Pitt vehicle is a tale of a veteran American tank crew in the closing stages of WWII as they battle, town by town, towards Berlin and the end of the war.

Pitt is the tank commander hellbent on guiding his grizzled crew ( an eclectic bunch that include a Mexican and a Redneck ) safely through the last stages of the war and annihilating as many Germans as possible along the way.

Pitt puts in a polished performance as the commander who at heart is a decent, upstanding guy but seems to be driven by an almost psychotic hatred of his enemy that in turn causes him to act in a way far removed from his peacetime persona. Shia LaBeouf supports well as a god fearing gunner and Logan Lerman ( he of Percy Jackson fame ) puts in a decent turn as the quaking new boy.

The film rocks on a decent pace interspersed with short, loud and visceral set piece battles leading to the final bloody act and just over two hours flew by with just a slight drag in the middle

Director David Ayer brings off a pretty decent action pic with a nice level of gritty realism although he does try to force it home just a tad but not enough to detract from the enjoyment of the piece.. fairly reminiscent of Saving Private Ryan.. nice intense battles though should keep enough of you suitably entertained.

Enjoyed it thoroughly and a solid 7/10 for me

Really enjoyed this also.

Matt Damon's confirmed he'll be reprising his role in a new Bourne film.

Interstellar is a bag of shit. Can't remember the last time I flounced out of a picture house before this.

Expendables 3

The most noteworthy thing about this film is how many stars have been crammed into its laborious 2 Hours. In a few cases I use this term loosely as some haven't worked in a while..yes Dolph Lundgren I'm looking at you.

Stallone really has exhausted his celeb mate black book this time... along with the usual crew he managed to persuade Mel Gibson and Harrison Ford to join in the fun. Pretty sure he lied and drugged them..perhaps he promised guilt free orgies in Las Vegas..whatever the reason it couldn't have been 'I'm making a great film I want you to be in it '.

Stallone pens one of the most ludicrous scripts ever to get past a studio exec.. the paper thin plot is unbelievable, inexplicable nonsense..its so bad i have trouble recalling it.. something to do with an arms dealer.. I'm not sure and I'm someone who loves action films that makes no sense.

The action itself is fairly ok..relentless and loud and if you can find a gear lower than neutral to park your brain in then you may really believe Stallone and his team can take on an entire army ( and yes I do mean an entire army complete with Tanks and attack helicopters ) without losing a man and only taking minor flesh wounds in the process.

I seem to remember enjoying the first of these romps and the novelty of seeing so many stars in one film.. but that trick has worn thin and I was wishing for the end to this tripe about 40 minutes in..

If you like your action loud and stupid give it a whirl but for this action film fan it was tiresome and harks back to the sort of films teenage boys liked 30 years ago where body count and big bangs were premium... now its just ridiculous like the middle aged man at a rave.. it has no place and is just plain embarrassing .

The Equalizer

The Equalizer if you didn't know was a TV series from the mid eighties starring Edward Woodward as a middle aged Roffler who was once an intelligence agent who decides that  helping the average Joe fight the nasty people of this world is a great way to spend his twilight years. He usually achieved this with a minimum of violence and a large dollop of cunning.

Fast forward 30 years and Denzil Washington is an ex CIA assassin who following the death of his wife fakes his own death and assumes a life of mediocrity working in a B&Q and spending his insomnia riddled nights reading in an all night cafe.

Here he befriends a young Russian hooker who he witnesses beaten and mistreated by her pimp. Incensed by the injustice he confronts the pimp and offers to buy the girls freedom. After the pimp impolitely refuses Denzil moves from mild mannered assistant from the electrics aisle to full on stone cold killer.

After dispatching the pimp and his thugs in an almost balletic action sequence our hero then realises his kicked over the tip of the entire Russian mob.

What ensues is a beautifully paced action thriller with Denzil turning in his usual excellent performance..his character is cool, methodical and calculating and  dispatches his enemies in ingenious and bloody ways. He also manages to transform from a quiet helpful middle aged man into a brutal pitiless killer without it seeming ridiculous.

Had been looking forward to this and for once it delivered..
