Tom Hanks' best performance in years

Really liked Greengrass's tactic of using unknown somali actors for the pirates who had never met Hanks until they shot their first scene together (as the enter the bridge) Led to some great reactions

Really enjoyed it, one of the films of the year

Prisoners.

Very long and pretty dark, but worth the ride, and nicely twisty and turny.

Hugh Jackman and Donnie Darko both up to their usual standard. 6/10 for me.

He did the same thing on United 93 - the actors playing the hijackers were kept completely separate from the ones playing the passengers.

Kate Blanchett is magnificent in Blue Jasmine with Woody Allen back to his very best. Always like Kate but now I have fallen in love.

Watched Django Unchained last night, that was good.  Love the Tarantino blood baths, very well filmed.

Quite amused at the number of places I'm recognising Shane from The Shield at the moment too.

Walton Goggins

He was in Karate Kid IV or something similar

Captain Phiilips different gear, 10/10, yup. Tom Hanks off the charts.

This, the most intense film I've ever seen, 10/10, give that man another Oscar.

Took my lad to see this, we were both glued to our seats pretty much throughout. Oscar surely a formality.

Barkhad Abdi must be up for best supporting actor as well, don't you think? I mean, never acted before, just tried his luck in an open audition after seeing an ad that had been placed in an area of Minneapolis known for it's Somalian community.
Absolutely incredible talent.

Gravity - Neat concept with some impressive visuals, moments of genuine high tension. Some of Bullocks' soliloquys plodded along unnecessarily and seemed like padding rather than bringing anything to the story 8/10

Captain Phillips - After big scores from some heavyweights itt I was looking forward to this. Falls short of a great film because we don't get personal enough with Hanks to really care, I mean the clue is in the title Captain Phillips - anybody remember his name was Richard? 8/10

Behind the Candelabra - Michael Douglas is a real cinema heavyweight and plays a great role as Liberace but the film is kinda cringworthy at times and best avoided despite some glowing reviews 5/10

Gravity was fantastic for opening 30 minutes and then it turned into a children's film. Action became completely implausible and drowned the audience in sentimentality. Better than most Hollywood films but a real waste of a remarkable premise.

I enjoyed Philomena a lot

Judi Dench does what she does, nicely nuanced star turn

Steve Coogan played his role down and left Dench to it, which was a first for him!

Remarkable true story (about a woman who tries to find a son she was forced to give up for adoption, which is sold to America by Nuns) with plenty of dry humour, well told

Dench a shoe in for a BAFTA. Film is real award bait!

Watched Tyrannosaur just now and thought it was good. A 6.5/10 for me. Very dark in a lot of places and feels raw throughout but the acting from everybody was pretty spot on.

Surprised by how good an actress Olivia Coleman is too. As Vince Gilligan says, if you are good comedian, drama acting often comes naturally.

Film documentary about the Civil Rights March on Washington in 1963 on iPlayer at the moment. Lite on political content, but stock footage is very powerful.

Pretty much this. Grips you for 20mins and then lets you slide away. Blatant Wall-e rip-off too.
