Omaha 8 - How much should I raise?
«

DTD 2/2 DC onSaturday night. 8 handed, it's last hand of the night and I'm in the BB.
UTG straddles to £4. 5 callers, I call blind. UTG pots it making it £32 to go. Everyone calls so I decide to check my cards.
. JACKPOT!!!
UTG has about £75, guy in middle position has similar. I have about £500, 2 have me covered, 1 has about £400, 1 has about £250 and looks like he doesn't want to lose it. He's already said "let's make it a family pot".
Obviously I have a monster hand and want to raise. The question is how much?

erm....pot.
8 handed, there is around 240 in the pot. Last hand of the night..if it's been a crazy night I would raise to 150 pot bet in and expect/hope 1 or 2 callers. all the money is going in some way...good times!

At the time I didn't really think. I just said "pot". That was a raise of £220 ish.
Thinking afterwards though should I have tried to drag in one of the bigger stacks? The 2 short stacks had no choice but to call. They had lovely odds because they were only putting about £40 each in to a £200 + pot. All I was doing really was isolating the stacks that I wanted to be up against.
It's the fact that there were so many callers making the pot raise too much for almost anything to call. They would've needed a hand similar to mine to be able to call so like Boldie says probably just a £150 raise would've been better.

The thing is, the big stacks are probably up for the night. People like a bit of a gamble in the last hand but nothing nuts as they don't want to loose all their winnings. The shortstacks are probably down and chasing losses so will always call.
Getting the big stacks in is very difficult here because of this, so raising to big just sends them home thinking "shame about the 32£ for the last hand but I'm still up loads so time to go" . 150 will really be the max you'll get from most people, I think.

Yeah I agree. I think I wasted an opportunity with this hand. It was just instinct to make the pot raise as soon as I saw the monster I had.
If I'd thought a bit more I could maybe have got a bit of valuable action.
Quite a difficult situation for such a quality hand unfortunately.

yes, the last hand of the night is a lot more player dependant than a normal hand during the night...it really depends on your reads of the types of players you're sitting with.

Nah just ram the pot, 150 or 220 they are either calling or not.
Personally i would be happy taking on 2 short stacks, you still have far from a winning hand.

You wouldn't be tempted with a min raise to drag everyone in and see if you hit something?
I'm obviously thinking of a big last hand gamble here but with A 2 4 you're obviously looking good for the low end and maybe it's worth a punt?
Like Boldie says the last hand is very different from the others so maybe a slow play could be justified?
I didn't btw, I'm just wondering because of the strength of the hand.

If you want to drag them in why min raise at all, flat call to disguise your hand. Min Raise and you tell them what you have.

They all came along for an extra £28. Can't see any reason why they won't for £32 more. There's even more value then. Chances are UTG shorty goes all in after the min raise anyway so they can all call his £75 knowing that I can't repop when it comes back to me.
