I would be more impressed if we excelled at stuff that wasn't minority.

If we start shipping Athletics medals i will be happy!!

Swimming was obv a great start in this respect.

Surely cycling is as much a minority sport as swimming is?

How many people race in the Tour de France every year? It's hardly a minority sport.

Just because it's not as popular for viewing purposes doesn't mean that there aren't as many people actively competing at any one time.

I'd guess there are more swimmers about than sprinters. We just don't know about them because it's boring.

Im Olympic terms Athletics>>>>>> Swimming>>>>> Every other sport, in terms of presteige imo.

Though i think moaning about us excelling in a sport cos its not important as the rest, is a bit lol.

Thought i was alone for a second!!!

I ain't complaining about crushing indoor cycling, it's a great achievement and shows what we can do with the right investment, now i would love to see that done in the 'major' sports.

Swimming isn't boring.

But yes I'd imagine out of cycling, sprinting and swimming there were more competitive and recreational swimmers than either of the other two, it's just in terms of the prestige levels they can't compete with athletics. That's why they can't compete in terms of funding.

Sorry it was a bit of a tongue in cheek statement. It's not really boring.

Like you say it's about the prestige and the prestige comes from whatever makes good viewing and that is whatever is exciting.

Hence

100m>>>>>>200m>>>>>>400m etc... >>>>>50m freestyle>>>>>>50m butterfly>>>>>>>>.......50km Walk.
