Tilt mtt, blinds 300/600 w antes.

Folds to hijack who raises to 1800.  I'm on the button with AJo.

He has about 22k, I have 17.5k.  We're both above average.

Is this a good spot to shove or should I be picking someone with less chips than me

Imo making it 9k is also too heavy , your putting over half your stack in and i assume your calling the re-shove , and u know your screwed with AJ to the reshove

So i'm making it something like 5750 this gives us a chance to pass to a rr and leaves us very much with a playable stack , also if he calls pre ur in position with the best hand more often than not

Ugh never put a 1/3 of your stack in and fold imo. If the guy shoves on you after making 5750, it is another 11750 to call. The pot by that stage assuming we are 9 handed will be 17500+5750+600+300+600= 24750.

Getting a bit over 2 to 1 his 4bet range is going have to damn nitty for us not to get it in. Any raise commits us to the pot imo, so just shove it. Plus with aj, i really don't want him seeing a flop with his calling range.

Its a shove for me, if you raise and fold to a re-shove then you will be folding to medium pairs a fair amount.

Bit late on this thread. but isn't 30bb a bit much to be shoving here?? Agree 3bet folding is bad also..Not sure what the best play is tbh given the stack sizes.. Is flatting really bad in pos?  Would be getting value from worse Ax/Jx hands ?

Whats wrong with 4900 - 5975?

At how many BB's are you drawing the line between shoving and raising longy?  35?

this is bang on an awkward spot for me, raise his bet x3 and youve put in 9BB's with 20 left so have commited a 1/3 of your stack so aint folding from here onwards...

Is the flat call out of the question?

Chip Prince i normally go with the rule if his raise is more than a 1/10 of my stack, shoving is not an overbet imo as any 3bet commits my stack. With the antes in play we could probably extend that to 35 instead of 30.

Im not against making a smaller 3bet if we believe we can make the hijack shove with worse, but we aren't doing this to fold to a 4bet.

This is quite a good article from bond18 on 2+2 about playing different stack sizes..

http://www.tworags.com/blog/bond18/post/986/things_it_took_me_a_while_to_learn__part_1__stack_sizes?PHPSESSID=001c9552f9d19184b3d768d838e83066

He writes a whole series about basic MTT concepts which I found useful..
