Do you mean that when you loaded it in safe mode it loaded but wouldn't give you a start menu?

The question is do you have a Windows XP CD?

If so then its an easy fix, if not then you need help.

as for safe mode, seems it has had the same problem (almost loaded then crashed last minute!) just a black screen with safe mode in the corner - can't do anything!

Question for Techies:

You need to try 'System Restore' - setting your PC's configuration back to an earlier version that worked successfully.

Click Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore

...

Can this be run from DOS?

Ok follow these instructions very carefully:

If a Packet Hits a pocket on a socket on a port,
and the bus is interrupted as a very last resort,
and the address of the memory makes your floppy disk abort,
then the socket packet pocket has an error to report.

If your cursor finds a menu item followed by a dash,
and the double-clicking icon puts your window in the trash,
and your data is corrupted 'cause the index doesn't hash,
then the situation's hopeless and your systems gonna crash!

If the label on the cable on the table at your house,
says the network is connected to the button on your mouse,
but your packets want to tunnel on another protocol,
that's repeatedly rejected by the printer down the hall,
and your screen is all distorted by the side effects of gauss,
so your icons in the window are as wavy as a souse,
then you may as well reboot and go out with a bang,
'cause as sure as I'm a poet, the sucker's gonna hang!

When the copy of your floppy's getting sloppy on the disk,
and the microcode instructions cause unnecessary risk,
then you have to flash your memory and you'll want to RAM your ROM.
Quickly turn off the computer and be sure to tell your mom.

ConsGaming, yes i know its not a gameing computer but dont buy this for yourself/family/freinds if you want to do any type of gameing on it, the CPU is not fast enough to run most games without lagg and the graphics card or intel chipset just fails on everything.

Doesn't sound promising for having a few tables open at once.

Upgrade as necessary, get their on site backup, and then leave it alone  Wink

the bloody thing keeps crashing while starting up - loads the windows xp screen then crashes, what can i do to try and fix this?

was with a friend a couple of days ago and the exact same thing was happening to him with a new lappy. after we'd stared at it for a while and watched it crash a dozen times we discovered that he was resting the cooling outlet with the fan in it (there may be a more technical term for this) on his leg so it was overheating and shutting down after a couple of seconds. after leaving it 10 mins to cool it ran fine when put on a table
