a few of us are going to dublin in a few weeks and i have spoken to a few people about whether we need a passport or not all with varying answers.
so advice please

Check the website of the airline - they're all making stricter rules - at least with the passport you know you're OK. |

What airline are you flying with? The answer used to be no (any photo ID would do), but I'm pretty sure Ryanair state that you must have a valid passport to travel now.

If you are a citizen of the European Union you need a passport or national identity card in order to enter the Republic of Ireland. We strongly recommend that you bring a passport as a form of identification if you have one.

I think its just photo ID. Prob varies with airlines though.

check with Ryanair. I know I've flown to Ireland with them with just my driving licence before, but that was a good few years ago. Legally you don't need one, but the airlines will have their own policiies.

For British and Irish citizens who are travelling on flights to/from the United Kingdom to/from the Republic of Ireland (Common Travel Area), a valid driving licence with photo is acceptable photo ID. Passengers who are citizens of other countries travelling on these routes must present a valid passport (with visa if applicable) or a National Identity Card issued by the government of a European Economic Area (EEA) country.
found that on there website so driving license photo id looks ok

you can get a passport in about 2 days, in fact I've got my last 2 same day so just get passports to be on the safe side |

there are two seperate issues here. Airline requirements to satisfy photo id - most airlines require some form of photo id now - check with the airline to see what they require immigration - there is no passport requirement for UK Residents to enter the ROI. |
