Our very own Matt Russell aka Evil Pie is in push mode.
One limper in UTG, Rob Clarke, on Matt's SB gives him the opportunity to shove his stack right over the line in one swift and casual motion. Rob folds.
Very next hand on Rob's BB and Matt obviously being the SB he once again pushes but this time he gets a dwell and a request for a chip count from Rob. No action unfolds as Rob decides it's just a bit too much for him to call.

We've now entered into the final 45 minute level of the night. The blinds are 400/800 with a running ante of 100 and an average stack of 25,106. 47 players remain. Marcus Bebb-Jones is your current chip leader with just over 70k.

Another player for the long and lonely walk home.
With the blinds at 400/800 and a running ante of 100 Brien Reid, on the cut, off decides it's time to push with A 8 only to be called by the BB, Jonathan Spinks holding AQ. Both players were pretty evenly stacked with 13.5k to 13.8k Jonathan now lives to see another round or two.

They are dropping faster than I can type now, we have just lost Craig Emptage, leaving 43 hopefuls left.

I pictured him riding low on the previous page, but David Edwards is now riding middle (okay, I confess, that phrase doesn't exist) with 15,000 after doubling through with pocket tens versus pocket queens. One ten wasn't good enough, neither was two probably, but there were no more in the deck so he had to settle for quads. Edwards' table broke soon after, and he has now joined Messieurs Mallu, Sadler and co on the table nearest to base.

Detective work would be easy if the killer just turned up at the station and said, "Yep, it was me." Updating's the same. James Roberts just trundled up to my desk and said, "You want my exit hand?" Of course, much like PC Plod at the station would, I happily embraced someone doing my work for me and invited him to fill his boots. Anyhow, apparently it was James who was the victim of the above hand. This bashed him down to 1,000 in chips and with the big blind at 800, his diminished stack went in a hand later with 8-5 suited, only to be called by K-J nd Q-T. James flopped an open-ended straight draw and even turned a flush draw, but like a hypnotic belly dancer, the poker gods can be teasing at times and made sure none of his outs arrived on the raggy river.

Lee Nayler has been spotted propping up the bar in exactly the same way as Delboy Trotter did when he fell through. Observations on physical posturing aside, this means that he's been eliminated from today's event.

Marc
Goodwin
is using his short stack to the max pushing all in at any given opportunity.
After telling me not to move from the table as he was going all in for the next 5 hands he folded under the gun, then came his BB, not looking once again he calls an all in from the cut off, Michel Sterk, who shows Ah 10h but in a true Goodwin fashion Mark flips over
much to the disbelief of the young Norwegian.
Next hand he somehow managed to get away from Chris Bruces pocket A's and remains in the game with a stack of approx 10k which is more than we can say for Michel Sterk who reraised a 3k bet all in for the remainder of his now depleted stack and received the call from the original raiser whom held
to Michels
. Nothing came to inmprove his 7's so off he toddled.

Just a few more hands to report before we hit the sack (separately, I might add). One pot that I must regale you with is the unfortunate near demise of Pete Wigglesworth. On the very last hand of the evening, Wigglesworth raised to 5,000 with
only for Mohammed Shoahebe to come over the top for 7,000 more with
. Of course, Wigglesworth bit his arm like an alligator with toothache and made the call. With Shahebe looking defeat in the face, the board came
...
drum roll please, affroed maestro
...
And in a heartbeat, Wigglesworth's hopes of heading into day two with a playable stack are torn to shreds. Instead, he returns tomorrow with just over 2,000.

The rise and fall and rise and fall and rise and fall of Rob Clark
If anyone's been up and down like
Julian
Thew
on a trampoline, it's Rob Clark. Not since I last visited Alton Towers have I witnessed a roller-coaster ride like this, Clark's heart sure to be a flutter as he endured all-in after all-in. However, it was the first of his showdowns that was the crucial pot, and the one that allowed
Chris
Bruce
to take a big stack into day two.
(1) With Clark raising it up to 2,500 from early position, Bruce made it 8,000 from the blind and Clark called. On the
flop, Bruce led for 10,000 only for Clark to come over the top for Bruce's last 7,000. In a flash, Bruce made the call and tabled
. Perhaps misjudging Bruce's remaining chips, Clark showed a paltry
. The
turn and
river were academic, and the monster pot went sailing over to Bruce, who, like his fellow tablemates looked on with more than an raised eyebrow.
(2) Down to the felt, Clark then found himself all in a few hands later versus two other players. After a
board was checked down by
Matt
Russell
and
Bob
Ballou
, Clark showed
to stay alive. Russell tabled
.
(3) With the fat lady sent back to the dressing room, Clark rose back from the dead like a phoenix from the flames when he doubled up to 20,000. He pushed from late position with
, was looked up by
Bob
Ballou
's
in the big blind, and duly survived a
board.
(4) A few minutes before the end, Clark returned the favour and doubled up
Bob
Ballou
with Q-9 suited versus nines. As a result, I believe Clark ended the day with around 14,000.
