Purely as an interested observer, why would a premiership club offer a manager an 8 year contract?

Think Ashley was trying to make the point that it was all about the long term, really it means nothing though, just like most contracts in football.

yeah think this as well but he's put himself in a spot now where it looks like he's never serious if he sacks Pardew and how can a new manager believe a word he says if he says 'long term' then sacks the bloke a year (less?) later.

also fwiw I think it's an absolute million that we sack him in the summer, but if we did -- who we backing to replace him? how much better can we (realistically) do?

huh, anybody who isn't blind?

roberto martinez/laudrop/matteo/poyet/DICANIO Cheesy/

I used to stand up for the guy, but this season he has proven he is tactically inept and a bottler.

Why would Martinez turn down Liverpool and then take the Newcastle job ?

Laudrop also probably wouldn't be interested.

"Newcastle are 18th in the table, six points above the relegation zone."

That's quite an impressive feat.

Huge result tonight and completely in our own hands now. I think one point will be enough now, but there is no excuse to lose to QPR.

If we don't beat QPR and end up down because Wigan pull another rabbit outta the hat trick then we fucking deserve it. Not easy to win games when in free fall and QPR were great in spells vs Arsenal but we need a win.

Pardew says he doesn't care if we lose 4-0 to Arsenal and that he's thankful we're not in Europe next season.

But thank god we won today. Going down to the last day would have been awful.

well, yeah, he said some strange things, misinterpreted through the relief of not having a last day sweat.

Poyet to Newcastle?

hope not. seems like he thinks he's bigger than the club anywhere he goes. bit arrogant and after his comments after getting beat by Palace I just thought 'grow up and take it on the chin like a man'.

fwiw, unless we could replace Pardew with Rafa (which we definitely can't, not a big enough club for him...) I would just keep Pardew.

Someone mentioned Tony Pulis in jest yesterday, I fucking hope not. Although that would be one way for Mr Ashley to increase sales at the club shop...

Pardew is abs clueless tactically inept, soul destroying, nightmare at man managing, smarmy, hated by te fans, his players and everybody else.

I hate pardew more than MTTs.
