This actor saw every film he ever starred in nominated for a Best Picture award. Who was he?
Driving me mad, clue please(it's not just one film is it)

It's five films. (Technically six after archive footage of him was used in a film after his death)

phoenix?

so what's the deal with this question? we have to ignore most of the films he was in?

Only three films ever received  the top five Oscars - Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Picture and Best Screenplay. Name one of them.

===It Happened One Night, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Silence of the Lambs.

Only three films starred Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino. Name two of them.

===Godfather Part II, Heat, Righteous Kill

Name all of the films in the Hannibal Lecter series.

Agent Starling was first played by Jodie Foster and then, in Hannibal, she was replaced by Julianne Moore. Why? She's shit.

John Cazale, but that was by skillful Googling, rather than honest knowledge Smiley.

edit: is the answer to the actor in 5 best picture nominees, to avoid rapid-fire posts confusion.
