We have used the tv to view the pc screen many of occasions but long back. Now once i have set up the cable from tv to pc I cant remember the key code to display the pc on the tv. HELPPPPP I am sure i used to press FN F5 or summat like that.

Not sure what tv you got but on mine (Sony Bravia) I have to have mine set to the correct AV channel

go to control panel, then adjust scrn resolution or something similar. and you will have 2nd scrn options on there.

i right click mouse on desktop

press graphic options
output too
dual display clone
monitor+notebook

Right click on desktop
select properties
select settings tab
if you have a second screen connected it will show as screen 2
click on it
tick the "extend my destop" box
bob's your uncle

(oh 2000/XP by the way don't knw about vista)
