my problem with these threads isn't what they are but what they will become. I'm not looking forward to the time when we get 20 people a day coming on asking the same thing

Gotta agree with this, don't mind staking when I can and also like to take offers of staking. However anyone asking for staking, like Trigg and Rooks has said, should put a decent proposal together.

i dont like it when someone just comes on and says "any staking going on tonight" i wouldnt say its tantamount to begging but i almost did.

IMO either a) buy in yourself
               b) wait patiently for a staking thread, if not one tonight, then ul but it aint cost ya
               c) state which comp u wanna play and write up a proposal showing OPR and records.

This has been bugging me for a while, but have avoided saying too much as if both parties are happy then so be it.
But seeing as the subject has arisen, may as well spend my 2 pence worth.........

In effect, it is begging, in most cases, no more, no less.
I am particularly referring to the 'give me $11 to play a tourney tonight' efforts.
They are little different to the 'send me $5 please' FT railers. If you are comfortable being viewed as such then fine.

I personally will not stake these kind of proposals.

The medium / long term proposals are the best IMO. They offer something tangible to both staker and stakee.
Tanks being an excellent example, but not the only good one - Monkey Matt and zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzrope have also stood out. (I am sure there are others as well).

The 'taking a shot' ones are often good - Iron at WSOPE, some of the GUKPT and DTD ones.
Often backed by a bit of a story, particularly worthwhile if you know the person is going to give it 110%, and give an update / feedback during / after the tourney - value for money, see.

Apologies to the OP - nothing personal. Yours is no worse (or better) than lots of others.
As it happens you also gave regular updates and gave it a good shot which is a step on from many..

And all this from someone who staked the legend that is Fergus!.

This has been an interesting thread. Personally, as one of several who did a lot of work on the staking boards/guidelines/workings before we launched them, I have a lot of sympathy with the views expressed by Jakally and others.

This does not at the moment extend to me wanting to legislate against this ad hoc "asking for staking" threads, though I accept I'd probably think differently if we were deluged with them. Or, conversely, if they were mostly on our card-room  Wink

Interested to hear all feedback on this subject. Overwhelming views one way or the other would see the mods discuss the issue I am sure

Tighty,

Wouldn't for one second suggest you change the rules.
If people want to come to a staking agreement that isn't to my taste then its my TS if I dont like it.

and that's been our attitude to date as long as threads/proposals however short term fall within our guidelines. Always prepared to adjust if necessary, and listen to feedback

I dont really think its a problem. When you click on a section of a forum that says "online tournament staking" and its full of threads requesting stakes for tournaments, to be played online, it shouldn't be the biggest problem in the world. People cant use the argument that its a waste of their time, because if they had any respect for time value, they wouldn't post on forums in the first place.

the very same thing can be said about the deluge of diarys that are in the lounge/rail, yet they continue unabated,  and if 20 people a day are asking for it, then that likely means that people are trigger happy when pissing their money away staking these losing bingo-shot players, so its similar to when you feed pidgeons the scraps from your subway sandwiches. Stop feeding the animals the scraps, and they stop coming in droves to try and snare it up.

If the stakers operate due diligence when doling out there money, and the mods operate due diligence when accounts start flooding the forums just to get 300 posts in order to ask for stakes, then natural selection should make any concerns about this redundant.

It isn't really that hard to not read threads.

As an occassional staker I don't really see the problem. If you don't want to get involved just ignore the thread IMO, if it starts to get out of hand look at it again by all means.

It shouldn't be a problem. It just means that there will be 20 unanswered threads on the staking page every day.

which wouldn't be a problem except that most regular posters use the new posts button to read the forum and so you'd have these posts taking up the whole first page

Naw.  Just go to that board, read the ones you want, mark the rest read, then go back to main forum and show unread posts for the rest.  That's what I do to get rid of all the sports section stuff before I try to catch up on the rest.

Seems like a lot of hassle.

That's the point of the unread posts link to avoid having to skip around the different boards.

You need a system.
Try this.

If Boldie or Boshi were the last posters on a thread, ignore, as it will be full of '+1',  thumbs up, and all of the other piffle that get's you 10,000 posts per week.

If the thread was started by Joerama quickly open and post some witty comment offering him $5 - you won't be the first, and it won't be funny but if you can't beat them and all that.

If it's a hand analysis post wait for Flushy or Lloyd to post their answer and then quote their post and type 'THIS' underneath it.
Exception being if Mantis made the last post when you can either skip the whole thread cos you don't have time, or be really street and post 'tl;dr'.

If Kev starts a thread, you know he is asking you to play in some comp or other so have a standard reply to cut and paste such as 'can't play going shopping', and hope, as usual, he misses the fact that you are posting away every 5 minutes during said tourney.

If its in Live Poker ignore unless you live within 11 miles of Luton.

If it's in The Lounge ignore if you have been on the BBC News site that day as you will already know all about it.

Any other thread open and post a comment about Dewi starting it.

Hope this helps.
