Cant argue with that kind of monet for a 17 inch lappy. I wouldnt touch a Toshiba with a barge pole though and know lots of people that have had problems with them so my choice would be the ACER. Dont know much about that brand but the spec and price seems pretty good to me.

(I am sure not all Tosh's are bad though and no doubt plenty of Blondes use them with no probs)

The price is ok, but its a very average laptop, so I wouldn't call it a bargain. It all depends on what you want to do on it.

ps I love on the Toshiba that one of the security features is that the hard-drive is screwed in. Lucky thieves have never heard of a screwdriver.

lol. how heavy is that lappy that people are going to just steal the hard drive rather than the whole thing. good to see the battery is also secured by means of a sliding latch, hardly USPs are they

The Acers seem to be excellent pieces of kit - Boo and Slim have both purchased in recent times.

If you want a 17 inch the Acer 7730 seems to be the best on offer in this price range - £429 @ PCWorld without Norton.

Personally I would avoid HP and Tosh laptops - the actual casings and keyboards are of very poor quality.

I had an acer for 18 months and it was fairly good. I now have a toshiba almost identical to the one in the link. It is horrible, it freezes and its riddled with problems. I am not sure if it is just vista ( everyone tells me it is crap ) or the fact it is a low end toshiba, however I will never buy another toshiba laptop again. I will go back to acer or another kind when my current laptop dies . Soon I hope.

I bought a similar acer last year and have had no problems what so ever. You can probably get it for cheaper than that though.

I actually have this lappy and payed £450 about 6months ago. We have had a few Aspire laptops in our family and they have all performed very well. Beware though Ironside this is a heavy bugger but if you want the big screen it's good value for money.
