I am really out of touch with snooker ATM.

Seems to me that there is a lack of top class talent pushing through.  I remember a few years back when the likes of Higgins, Williams, Stevens, O'Sullivan etc were all coming through at roughly the same time.

Is it something to do with the way the rankings work?  I am not sure of the answer.

I would seem to me that if O'Sullivan turns up and bothers to try he wins.  Is that unfair to the other players?

GTFO Rory, you are slower than Terry Griffiths and Eddie Charlton put together.

Not the best start to be honest, although most bets have been speculative to date.  My 2 main bets of the 1st round are Ding and Ebdon, although both fairly short prices unfortunately.

1pt Bingham to beat O'Sullivan @ 8.4 Lost
1pt McLeod to beat King @ 2.72 Lost
2pts McLeod highest break v King @ 2.22 Lost
3pts Allen to beat Gould @ 1.36 Pending
2 pts Williams to beat Hendry IR @ 2.2 Lost

Running total -6pts

3pts Ding to beat Wenbo @ 1.5
1pt Swail to beat Fu @ 2.9
1pt Cope to beat Perry @ 2.06
5pts Ebdon to beat Bond @ 1.38

3pts Allen to beat Gould @ 1.36 Won
3pts Ding to beat Wenbo @ 1.5 Pending
1pt Swail to beat Fu @ 2.9 Pending
1pt Cope to beat Perry @ 2.06 Pending
5pts Ebdon to beat Bond @ 1.38 Pending

Running total -4.97pts

0.5pts Lay Selby v Walden @ 1.06 IR
0.5pts Lay Selby -2.5 frames v Walden @ 1.36 IR

Walden had his chances yesterday and if he plays like he can today then 1.06 is way too short for Selby.

Walden just not taking his chances and Selby has scored big every time he has got in today - still, it was a longshot!

Brag Post Alert - I've not had a sports bet in 3 or 4 years but i saw Hendry v Williams as a straight coin flip as Hendry usually turns it on for the worlds. Therefore i absolutely smashed the 6/4 available about Hendry, at 4-5 down i wanted to get further involved especially with the tip issues Williams was having but i was pretty disgusted about only being able to get 13/8 with a frame deficit and now only a race to 5 or 6. Hendry has a softish draw however he will need to play a lot better to make much further progress.

I also have  not bet on snooker for a few years, but on Friday night I spotted a bet on Sporting Index that I fancied. It is called the Two Ronnies market and was quoted at 170-190. The scoring works as follows:

Good Ronnie

+100 pts for winning title
+50 pts for being runner up
+25 pts for losing in the semis

+ his highest break in the tournament
+50 pts bonus for a 147
+10 pts per century
+25 for winning the opening frame of every match he plays

Bad Ronnie

-100 pts for losing in 1st round
-50 pts for losing in 2nd round
-25 pts for losing in the quarters

-2 x the total foul pts from his first round match

-25 pts for losing the opening frame of every match he plays.

I bought at 190.

He won the opening frame, in the second frame he made a 140 break and in total he made 3 centuries in his first round match. he gave away 14 points in fouls. So, after 1 match it is at 167 so far. The market is now quoted at 290-310.
