[ x ] This is helping me cram for a test I have tomorrow afternoon on syntax and semantics.

[ x ] I hate syntax, and all other topics connected to linguistics, with the fiery passion of a thousand suns.

[ x ] I need the credits.

Some of the questions I've got a pretty good idea but I'm not 100%. Would like confirmation. Anyone who is good at this kind of shit and is able to help, mucho appreciated obv.



2. In the clause The tall, fair-haired man who had hit me yesterday fell
down the stairs, who had hit me yesterday is:

If you learnt this kind of stuff by rote and ruler back in the day when education was done properly and wish to goke, skawk and generally jepiddle as to what is happening to the younger generation then crack on. Just give me the answers at the same time and I won't argue with you. Smiley

They are probably just guesses, as I was never taught this sort of thing at school, and only learnt what a relative clause was when I was at uni studying a foreign language.  Be interesting to see if they are anything like the answers you have (they're probably way off).


(also, they're crap RSQ questions, please never be QM)

Yikes.

I think the first two are both c ('who', being a relative pronoun, is the clue in the first one, and the second one is a verb phrase) but I have no idea about the rest, especially 8, as you copied it out wrong.

Although it's a cut n paste job, I'm pretty sure 8 is nonsense. No idea, prob a typo from source.

Thanks for the help guys. Pretty sure I did enough to pass today.

I don't understand why I love words but hate linguistics. Guess I just like to keep the science out of the art, it's like pulling teeth or analyzing comedy.

It troubles me that someone qualified to set questions on the subject of syntax should make the questions so difficult to read.
