Pretty suprising to learn Watson's playoff record is won 2 lost 8.

Compare that with Tiger: won 15 lost 2.

When Watson was coming into his prime he had to contend with the dominant triumvitate of Palmer, Player, and Nicklaus.

Not to mention players like Trevino, Miller, Casper and Seve in what was a golden era of golf.

I think that Watson had a bit of a reputation as a choker after a load of 2nd places (playoff losses) before he managed to win which may explain that record to some extent.

All good points, but 2-8 (now 2-9 of course) is an amazingly shoddy playoff record for someone of his class.

Tiger and Nicklaus played their best golf under the biggest pressure. Obv not the case for Tom Watson.

I seem to remember that Nicklaus had a hell of a lot of 2nd place finishes in his career, I'm not sure about his playoff record.

Actually I've just googled Watson's playoffs and it seems that he is 9-4 on the PGA tour.

Maybe the 2-8 was Majors.

Nicklaus had 19 2nd places in Majors to go along with his 18 victories btw.

Okay I can't resist a minor chirp although if he'd holed that putt at the last he's have been in the playoff.......

Hands up anyone who followed my picks and got some of the 500/1 Chris Wood and then laid off @ 7/1 on BF

I have to admit i did think it was a strange fancy but again you proved you do know your golf. Such a pity he bogeyed the last or he'd possibly put too much pressure on the rest in the clubhouse at -2.

Was 7's the shortest he traded at karabiner?

I think there was a fair bit traded @ 5/1 which was the lowest that I saw before he bogeyed 13.

He hit a great 2nd shot into the last quite similar to Watson but there was simply no grip from the semi-rough downwind.

Even if he'd got into a playoff I'd have been a couple of £K better off as I'd have traded some more, and if he'd won...
