A combination of whacky baccy, subdued lighting and callow youth can lead to some strange occurrences  Roll Eyes

But in truth the Afghan in question was a sheep, it's getting worse.

Also not sure who has been recently bus Amsterdam is almost no more.

Going there Easter 2010 for a stag do and I think a few people are going to be shocked how little fun is actually left.

I havent been for 8 months, anyone been recently?

Why do you think this? because of the smoking ban?

No as boldie said they have decided they dont want it anymore.

The guy who owns the hotel I normally stop at told me the following.

The council are forcing the guy who owns all the buildings down the Damrak to sell up so they can close all the crap restaurants and tourist shops.
They have already started buying up the red light windows and filling them with clothes ready to rent as shops etc (this was obv, already 50% of the red light area gone)
All coffee shops had to apply for either a smoking license or a drinking license, no where can legally sell both weed and beer anymore.
All those who applied for a smoking license were granted a 2 year license and told it would not be renewed nor could they then have an alcohol license, there all gone in 2 years then.

Its never been one of my favourite places to go to be honest, even though I smoke drugs and like ladies. Its just a shit hole.

That's ghay, the ban itself is stupid you just have to go outside for a ciggy and keep your cigarettes in your pocket when inside a coffee shop.

Would hate for the liberalness to disappear though I wouldn't mind getting rid of all the tat. Lovely city outside the center.

Do you think you could sort out some deals for special room rates with the Travelodge?

Was planning a trip to A'dam later this year. Worth one last visit to pay my respects?

I used to travel a lot to the Netherlands.  Always flew to Amsterdam and then taxi to Apeldoorn.  Like 70 miles taxi, quite expensive but I was not paying.  One day, after being in Apeldoorn for a week, was preparing to leave the factory, asked secretary to get me a taxi to take me to Schiphol.  Secretary said thats expensive, why dont you get the train.  Told me how good it was an would only be 20 Euros for First Class...  I screwed up my nose, train, I dont do trains.  Not on company expenses...  But she convinced me, and even took me there in case the train ticket person did not speak English..  I got a 1st class ticket...  Got pointed to the correct platform and told 15 mins...

Train arrived... Got on, First class, have a room with like 6 seats in it...   I had already surveyed the map on the wall at the station, how many stations etc, what they are all called...  I knew that the train before Schiphol is called Amsterdam Central...  It is maybe 1 hr in total, I have plenty of time...  We got to Amsterdam Central, sat there for maybe 10 mins, and the train pulled out...  But it went back out same way we came in...  I am thinking, maybe we go out that way, and round in a large arc to the airport, I knew in general the direction to the airport...  A guard came to check my ticket...  Where are you going sir..?  Airport..  No you are not we are heading for Amersfoort...  No no, I said, I got on at Apeldoorn and my first station was Amersfoort..  Yes sir, he agreed with me.  That is like 40 minutes to Amersfoort?  Yes he said... I explained i was directed to the correct train platform by station staff...  Yes sir, you got the correct train, but, if you remember while at Amersfoort, the wait there was 5 to 10 mins...  yes, I said... Well sir, the train had split into 2 halves at that station and the rear half went to Schiphol...!!  OMG, I am going to miss my flight and it is the last flight tonight...

I did get off the train at Amersfoort and change to another train that took 70 mins to get to the airport stopping at every stupid station it could have stopped at, I got to the airport 20 mins after it had departed, so I had to check into airport hotel and contact BA to get me on the 8:00am flight..

Not one of my best experiences of trains..  Wont do them again if I can help it..!!
