Dean.

We live in a knocking society. I have no idea, nor do I care, who's giving you grief. But I doubt if they ever take the time or trouble to contibute to the Community by bothering to write Tourney Reports. They just knock, because that takes no effort, & no brain. Even Chompy can do that.

So get writing. So we can flame you*. Right?

OK then, here goes...I did warn you it's long , so I'll post in stages.

Nb....All feedback / constructive criticism is welcome. I'm keen to improve and am thick skinned/not easily offended and don't tilt, so criticise away please!

GUKPT Luton

A £1,000 buy in is way above my normal bankroll, so I'm treating this as a “one-off shot” at this level. With a slow structure, my initial strategy is to play tight (nothing new there then!) and the first objective is to make day two, hopefully finishing better than the 89th I achieved in Brighton 2007.

Here follows my “Every Hand Revealed” review. I'm always keen to improve and will genuinely welcome any comments / criticisms etc.

Level 1 (25/50)

Seat 2 and small blind in the very first hand. Folded to me, I make up with 9 7. Flop 10, 9 x. I bet with my middle pair and take it down. Table chip leader already!

(Little did I know that I wouldn't win another pot for over 2 hours!)

One orbit in and I'm big blind. Several limpers and I find pocket tens & raise to 250. UTG immediately re raises another thousand and I fold. (At the break he told me this was QQ)

20th hand and I limp with J9s and call a 200 bet on a J high flop, but fold to another bet on a K high turn.

Limp in with a suited ace. Checks all round on the flop and checked to me on the turn. I attempt to take it down with a bet but am re raised and fold. End level one on 9,100, so not a great start!

Level 2 (50/100)

Don't play any hands at all for half an hour and then my table is broken.

On new table, call a raise to 300 with pocket sixes, miss and fold to a bet on the flop.

Don't play any more hands this level and after losing my blinds several times, I end this level on 8,000. Tell the Blonde Poker updater (Tighty) that I've hardly played a hand!

Level 3 (75/150)

Ten hands in, I limp to see a cheap flop with 67h, miss the flop and fold

Limp with A9s, get re raised and fold. Am beginning to feel I'm limp folding too much. Am I being too loose, or too passive? (Opinions welcome, but I wonder if too much limp folding is a leak I need to plug).

Cut off opens, I find QQ on the button and raise. He makes a comment about me not having played any hands and, quite predictably, he folds.

Very next hand, a player raises, I find pocket nines and using the image I now have, I re raise and take it down. Two pots in a row – feeling a bit better now!

Very shortly afterwards I find pocket tens and raise to 450. This time I'm re raised to 1,500 by the big blind and decide to call in position. (Is this a mistake?). The flop is 4 4 4 and I dwell / fold when the BB leads out for 2,500. This is the last hand before the dinner break and I end the session on 6,675. I've hardly covered myself in glory but I'm still in. (The BB, a Ladbrokes sponsored player, told me at dinner that he had QQ).

Level 4 (100/200)

Limp in with pocket fives and fold to a re raise.

Find pocket Kings and re raise an EP raiser from 700 to 2,100. Take it down for a welcome gain of 1,000 chips, but wonder if I could have got more.

Raise to 650 with pocket nines and fold to a 2k re raise.

Next hand I may have played badly (it certainly felt that way afterwards & feedback welcome). Raise to 600 with AQh and called by BB. Flop is something like 8 6 6 with two hearts; I C-bet 1,000 and BB calls. Turn is a blank and we both check. River is another blank and we both check again. I have ace high and he wins with pocket fours. I can't help feeling that a bet on the turn or river would have taken it down. Was I wrong to slow down after the flop?

Am now down to just 4,300 and feeling that I've played badly as I get moved to a new table, containing Roberto Romanello. James Mitchell has recently bust out from this table as has Nik Pursuad.

2 hands in on my new table, I have KK under the gun, raise to 650 and take it down. I now have 4,600.

3 limpers on my BB, I find AQ and decide to raise 600 more. One folds, another re raises to c 3,000, another fold and it's back to me and decision time! I feel I'm behind but that it may be a race. I decide I'll feel weak if I fold to a re raise yet again and I'll only have 4k left, so I decide its time to ship it in. (Thoughts/comments / feedback welcome). I'm up against pocket nines and off to the races. Four blanks and my dream is almost over until we see the lovely ace of clubs on the river. Phew!

This turned out to be a good level for me. I've had something of a reprieve and am now back up to just under my starting stack. Let's not waste this 2nd opportunity!

Level 5 (150/300)

4 limpers to me, I find JJ and decide to raise to 1,500. I get one caller. The flop comes Jack high and he checks to me. My instinct was to check as the flop was safe, but the urge to build a pot got the better of me and I C-bet another 1,500; he folded and I'm now up to 11,400, but feeling I may have missed an opportunity – should I have tried to let him catch up ?

I now move to another table containing Andreas Hovold and 2 or 3 chatty young internet player types. This seems like a fun table and Andreas is open raising regularly. Players are also having £100 prop bets on the flop colour, talking about their blogs and high stakes games in Vegas. This may be challenging! I get no hands for the rest of this level and finish on c 11.000.

Good report Alan.

Raise folding is a lot better than limp folding I think. Like with A9 I would just fold pre flop as I feel if it's not good enough to raise with it's not good enough to limp with either.  When you raise it's so much easier to take pots down after a flop, whereas you can get in a lot of trouble limping.

You probably know this already so sorry if it seems obvious.

+1

Ask tighty - I was dead against putting up a staking thread for that women's comp yesterday for, I suspect, the same reasons that have made you want to stop writing your tourney reports. I then thought sod it, if people want to take the piss out of me because I'm not one of the perceived 'good' players, then leave them to it - you should too. Yeah you'll still get people making sarky comments, but you've just got to develop a thick skin and remain confident in your own game imo.

Will expect the next tourney report soon!

Cheers Cos. Totally agree about the limp folding. I'm aware it's one of my leaks and I'm working on it.

As for Celtic - I'm happy to help cheer Dean up today!  More to follow later.
