I'm training chest tonight.

One day I hope to have the best chest in the business.

I've got a feeling you've probably banged a stripper with this title before though.

Almost off the front page.....

After the lovely norovirus I took a week sabbatical other than a shitty shoulders session I might as well not have done. I'm a little bit weaker compared to my lifts before I was ill, only a rep or 2 here and a couple kg on some dumbbell exercises there. A little irritating but not much to be done other than crack on until I regain the losses.

On the upside I'm now down to 15 stone dead so 1 1/2 stone of the 2 1/2 stone target gone. I'm aiming for 14 1/2 stone by 1st of May and hopefully a totally dry April will help with that Cheesy

Training updates are getting a bit dull now really.

When it was touch and go as to whether I'd stick with it I was keen to update progress.

Now that I'm firmly in the routine of training 4 times per week I don't feel the need to catalogue everything.

That being said I'm still going to keep up the dumbell press challenge.

I managed 4 sets on the 40kgs this week but couldn't get 10 reps out to let me move up.

I'm definitely at a plateau level now. 40kg is pretty heavy so a bit of consolidation is required before future steps up.

I've been for physio today. Nothing major was wrong but I like to have a service every few months to straighten things out before a problem can develop.

I've been having a bit of forearm pain which he says is probably mild tendonitis around the elbow . An ice bath after my heavy pressing session should help apparently.

So generally speaking everything's going great. I'm getting stronger everywhere and I can feel myself filling out a bit again. It's nice to get that feeling back.

I'm possibly going to look in to a few changes to my routine soon. I've been at this one for 3 months now so a change could be good.

Obviously I'll keep the dumbell press in but I may change things around it.

My physio, who's also very much in to his training suggested a more circuit based routine for a few weeks to break things up.

I'd still be doing my heavy dumbells as part of the circuit but everything else would change.

I've never done this type of training before where you are training every body part in each session. I'll have a think about it and decide what to do in the next week or so.

I might have a chat with one of the instructors at the gym as well. Most of them seem pretty useless but one guy has already given me a few decent excercises so I have confidence in him.

Doing circuit training would certainly be a good way of cutting up for the summer. I may even combine it with a month or so of stricter dietting to see what happens.

circuit training takes me back to what I was saying about not understanding how training each muscle group once a week was optimal. circuits just make so much more sense to me, be interesting to see how you find it

I might give it a miss then.

I'd hate to do something that proved you were right Wink

As part of my 50kg dumbell challenge I've been trying to get used to the general feel of the 50's.

I try to use them where possible just to get used to picking them up off the floor.

Psychologically you're set can be ruined if you pick up the weights and think "shit this is heavy".

I use them now for shrugs during shoulder training and also single arm row for back training. They are starting to feel more manageable already so that should help a lot when it comes to finally pressing them.

There's a great new machine down the gym. I only managed 15 minutes on it before I started to feel sick and had to stop. It does everything though, Snickers, Mars bars, Kit Kats, you name it....

That happened to me on Incline Bench the other night, it felt really heavy as I went to do my max and the set was terrible. My mate who was spotting said it was like I was never into the set and like you say it just messes everything up...

I was about to move up to the 32.5kg on decline press but dropped back a couple after the illness. Hopefully it'll all slip back up soon and I'll be bashing it. Like you said change is good and we've been doing the same routine for a couple months now. Think I might do a weeks deload end of April and then maybe look at changing the routine completely around.
