You're right though, I'll need to start writing everything down.

FML, this is hard work.

Hi Matt

I've been pointed in your direction for tips on training a new puppy. I don't really know where to start looking on this monster thread and search isn't really helping. Have read up loads and crate training seems the way forward to get her house trained

Any tips/advice much appreciated

Hi Karl

It's a bit tough to be honest.

There's way too many different things to ever try to cover them on a thread and without actually seeing the dog you can never be sure you're giving the correct advice.

Crate training is great. I've used one for my dog but you need to know how to use it properly.

Blatant spam (on behalf of someone else) but this would be a great place to start: http://www.cadelac.co.uk/dvd.html

There's loads of great info in there.

Have you got the dog already? If you have I'd honestly get this dvd straight away. The sooner you start to learn the easier it'll be.

If you're anywhere near Nottingham I'd recommend the classes as well. Puppy classes with socialisation are essential in my opinion.

If not I'm sure there's other good classes near you but knowing which ones to go to could be difficult.

By the way. I get absolutely nothing out of this if you do happen to buy a dvd. I just happen to think it's very good and worth recommending.

Good luck with it all.

One more thing.

If you haven't got the puppy yet I'd have a read of this: http://www.cadelac.co.uk/healthypuppy.html

Thanks for all that, very helpful. We pick her up on Sunday.

With the crate training, did you give the puppy somewhere in the crate to relieve itself at night (paper or pads) or did you get up during the night to let it out? The info seems fairly split with some people adamant you shouldn't use paper/pads in the house as it just teaches then that going in the house is ok

Bookmarked this thread, I get married in 5 months and don't want to ruin the photos, so I embarked on an intensive 5 month plan today.

I've always gone to the gym, and my bodyweight has fluctuated between 13st-16st since I was about 23 (32 now) as I tend to get motivated in 4 month cycles. I am 15st exactly today, and I will be aiming for under 14st for the wedding (May 9).

I have been using a personal trainer for a year, who has been specifically teaching me boxing and NOT weights/diet etc, because I don't normally respond well to gym regimes where the goal is a target weight etc, and I've always enjoyed going on the bag (But enough about the missus....). Although I would love to keep the weight off, I don't mind at all that I will likely put a load of it back on right after the wedding.

My PT is devising a programme for me this week, I am posting here to make the whole thing public to add a bit of extra pressure to the whole thing, so you lot can all call me fatty if I slack off.

Yeah obv I want to do better than that, in fact I prob should set some sort of secondary goal, otherwise I might take it for granted a bit too much.

Actually think 2 stone would be too much for me (I have been 13st a few times before and I end up looking a bit gaunt at that weight) - but I guess I can meet in the middle, 13st 7lbs.

I'm sure its been addressed already on here, but what do all you meatheads recommend as decent snacks? Presumably protein based, but anything that can make you feel full without being loaded with calories.

I'm basically thinking of something simple I can knock up of an evening when I get a bit hungry. Its usually about 9pm that I start craving carbs (toast is usually the culprit).

Just had a boiled egg, which seems like a pretty decent place to start.

If you're trying to lose weight I'd strongly recommend not having any snacks.

If you absolutely must have something how about a bowl of cereal with skimmed milk?

Regrettably this is my biggest issue. I tend to have a decent day most of the time, in fact often pretty disciplined, but then in the evening I get big cravings, I have something like a bowl of cereal or toast, and then I have another. Usually its the carby stuff that sets me off, so for an ideal snack I am looking for something that can curb my hunger in the evening, so I am thinking something higher in protein, or at least slow release carbs.
