One morning it took around 90 minutes to get downstairs to feed the dog. After that he had to go in to kennels for 3 weeks as I just couldn't take care of him.

Hi Matt. Glad you're feeling better.

Can I ask what Ronnie's toilet routine is at home and what happens to it when he's in kennels?

To be fair, that's pretty quick for you. I know you don't like getting up in the morning.

I've always been very deliberate in avoiding routines with Ronnie as I never know if I'll have to attend to something at work at short notice thus causing him problems. This obviously makes things pretty easy for him when he has to go in to kennels.

A reasonably typical day would be:

I wake up at 5.30 and head to the gym for 6. No chance whatsoever of getting Ronnie up at this time so I just leave him.

Go to work at about 7.30 for an hour or 2 to see what everybody's up to.

Get home anywhere between 8.30 and 10.30. Let Ronnie out. Throw his breakfast all over the garden so that he can search for it while I have a shower.

Go back to work until any time between 4.30 and 7.30pm. I don't have to let him out as soon as I get home, he'll happily just sit in the living room with me for some chill time and go and scratch the door if he needs to go out at any time.

This would be reasonably typical but I could completely change it without causing any stress to him whatsoever. I'm very lucky as far as that goes.

But when he's in kennels does he have to crap in his pen and does that affect his behavior at home after 3 weeks?

But when he's in kennels does he have to crap in his pen and does that affect his behavior at home after 3 weeks?

They get let out for half an hour for an off lead walk in the morning and again in the evening after their meals. Apparently Ronnie's never crapped in his pen apart from once when he had the two bob bits. He's probably stayed there getting on for 50 times in the last 8 years usually for no more than a few days, a couple of times for a week, once for 2 weeks and then the long stay whilst I was bad.

The pens are split in to two parts, an inside heated bit about 6ft square and an outside bit about 6ft x 12ft. He pisses all over the kennel I know that for sure. They've told me he's one of the worst for that and that he also rolls about in it a lot apparently. I can never tell because I always have him bathed the day I collect him.

The only change in his behaviour when he gets home is that he's knackered so sleeps for about a day and a half. It's as though he never left other than the tiredness which I assume is just down to not sleeping much because of all the other dogs.

To be honest his acceptance of the whole situation and especially his excitement whenever we go there makes it very easy to leave him. The staff where he goes are excellent, they love him to bits and he gets to play with their dogs in their field.

He gets a holiday at the same time as me Smiley

Day 1 of the new dumbell challenge!! Everything went swimmingly. Started the session with a quick few minutes on the cross trainer to warm up. Move on to incline bench press which I managed to get up to 50kg (+ bar) which is very respectable given the lay off.

Dumbells went as follows:

6th Jan 2015 24kg x 10, 28kg x 8, 28kg x 8, 28kg x 8

I didn't go crazy and there was probably a bit left in the tank but to avoid too many aches and pains tomorrow I chose the cautious approach. No problems at all with the lift so the lower back is looking strong at the moment.

Finished the session with cable crossovers then did 20 minutes of stretching as a warm down. Feeling really good Smiley

You're welcome Tom.

Were you just curious or are you considering kennels for yours and concerned about the affect they have?

Good luck with this buddy. Porridge, fig rolls, banana, handful of nuts are all good high energy foods for breakfast. Man Utd players are now eating fig rolls as their half-time energy boost food. The progamme above shows no attention to warm up/warm down & stretching. Have you forgotten how much comedy pain you will be in tomorrow if you don't do this? 10 mins on x-trainer to get the blood pumping and significant stretching and steam room to finish if you want to function properly the next day.

Whilst reading through yesterday I came across this Mantis post from 5 years ago. Turns out he was right about the warm up and stretching and what he recommends above is exactly what I'm doing now with great results.

Don't tell him though, he's enough of a tosser without this kind of ammunition.
