So, was last night a success or not? Not for leaguers it weren't - none made it into the final five, with Paul Denman the only familiar name.
Looking at the numbers, does 35 mean this is a tournament on the up? Hmmm. The fact that only 18 took the add-on can't be a good sign and Luther's com tourney report would suggest it was played in a morgue-like atmosphere among players who thought they were turning up to tackle the £30/£20/£10.
It'll be interesting to see whether they go close to matching the figure next week. Although Greg will be there once more, which should again bring in the norkage-seeking female flotsam from miles around. Phwoar.

No huge need for an in depth tournament report for last night, as it was far from an in depth tournament... Can't say i'm particularly looking forward to playing that next week...

The fact that I had limited myself to a budget of £30 seemed like it was going to cause problems... with the Ruppinator on my table hoovering up chips it was rebuy central for everyone else... I was forced to stay relatively tight, which was a struggle. Eventually it worked out as well as it could for me; I lost the first of my chips in a 5 way all in with  ... only God knows how I didn't scoop, then I spun my second 1000 chip up to around 5k, then took the add on.

Unfortunately I didn't last all that long once the rebuys had stopped. A youngster on my table seemed to be raising every other hand whilst I sat there folding 72,102,J4,Q6 etc etc... even when bluffing I like to have some kind of hand, some little suited connector at least; raise folding was not desirable. After maybe 30-40 minutes of folding I felt my image must be getting about right (amongst the players who hadn't played with me before anyway) to risk a small 3bet pre, I picked a spot where I had  and the steamrollering youngster had raised the button and immediately got 4bet all in. Sigh. After that it was all downhill, and I went out of the tourn with a whimper rather than a bang. Not very happy.

I'm going all out tonight, I havent played a Tuesday in about 2 years, but I doubt anyone's gonna play as hardcore an ABC style before down there Smiley

Only two tourneys at the G in 7 weeks!
Feels kinda strange tbh, but necessary imo.

God, that was awful. I guess I really havent got my head around this short stack rubbish yet.

Tournament report:

Lost my 1st 1500 chips getting it in with 2nd pair/K high flush draw vs a flopped A high flush. Lost the second 1500 vs a steaming man who'd just come off the roulette table. I had the monster that is  Two Clubs. The gentleman called my bluff on a very dry flop with no pair no draw, called my bluff on the turn when a second club came, then shoved the 3rd club river. I snapped him off and he showed me    or something for a higher rivered flush. Made my head spin a little.

After that I picked up AJ in early position with my new 1500 stack, raised, got 4 callers, Q high flop, bet into, folded. Then did something similar with A10. I am 99% certain that I couldn't have got any kind of bluff through on either hand, which makes me question how I could play them differently? Limp pre? Just shove?

After those two hands I was down to 950, picked up AQ on the BB. 2 limpers, button makes it 500, i shove, button calls another 450 with his  and the board blanked out until the 4 on the river.

Apologies to the backers, this has been a pretty atrocious start, but there are some serious tournaments coming up and i'm looking forward to them.

Fark knows why, but I ended up @ the G tonight.
LittleRedDrainyHood fancied going, plus I needed to give Greg his 10%.
Good to see Gregory,  but apart from that it woz total bollox.
Managed to spin initial 1500 up to 6k then got called down by 8th pair most hands, and ended up back to the starting stack @ the break.
Took 2 rebuys for 4.5k.
Sat tight for a while then when Gravly John limped for 400 and then there's a 2nd caller in MP I am happy to shove 4k+ with AQo.
SB & BB fold as hoped.
JH folds as expected.
then MP limper ponders then decides to call.
"I can't wait to see wot you've limped and called with there" says I, as I flipped over my AQ.
He proudly shows.....K.....J......o.......
Marv. Nice call.
There sure wasn't a K on the flop.
Super. gg sir.

Again, no leaguers among the cash positions last night, with in-form pair Paul Denman and Mel McFlurry leading them home.
Otherwise, Drainy appears to have retired from poker for the millionth time. Incred!

Anyone seen Bernard lately? I haven't and he's not cashed for ages. Has he been playing?
