  • got different opinions on flat or 3bet pre
  • glad didn't waste yr time with totally standard/basic situation

I had played 79 hands with villain, over which he had played one-third of his hands, raised 15% of his hands, and attempted to steal the blinds 1 of 5 times it had been folded to him in late position.

Unfortunately I didn't have any anecdotal notes on him. Looking at the stats now I see that by this point he had actually smooth-called 3 of the 4 re-raises he had faced. With this in mind, and his low stealing frequency, I definitely should have 3bet.

I guess I wasn't paying enough attention to the HUD because I was more worried about 'value stripping', i.e. folding out all the Ax/KQ/KJ type combos with a 3bet. I also don't want to fold out the small pairs that will give up when they don't hit their set.

Do you think that flat calling is best against an opponent who is likely to be stealing and will fold most of his hands to a 3bet?

Pre Flop: (t225) Hero is SB with As
5 folds, CO raises to t388, 1 fold, Hero calls t313, 1 fold

Flop: (t926) (2 players)
Hero checks, CO bets t575, Hero...

really? really really really?

Remember, we flatted pre our hand strength is disguised. I can think of 3 good reasons to not fold:-

i) AK is often ahead here
ii) If AK is not ahead we have between 3 and 10 outs
iii) If AK is not ahead we can make better hands fold on turn or river

Why not raise the flop then if you think are ahead to take it down... flatting here is bad... 3 bet pre...

ORLY? What hand range did you put your opponent on pre when he raised. Now what % of that range is now beating AK?

ii) If AK is not ahead we have between 3 and 10 outs

An offsuit J is your only really good card, A/K you can easily go broke.

iii) If AK is not ahead we can make better hands fold on turn or river

I dont really like floating here. Think all of the above cements my pre flop thinking and 3betting is def the best option.

OK 'often' was definitely wrong word to use. Basically it is ahead of all rag aces and most suited connectors and some other random hands this guy could have opened his button with.

Yep 3-bet was the right move preflop, and the flop call was questionable but now this has arrived what is the next play?

it's difficult to advise the "next play" when the previous plays were not lines i'd be taking to get here
