misread. I thought you said where does the song come from, not where does the tune come from

now I'm even more intrigued by your logic as your assumption that my knowing who now sings the song to who means I don't know where the tune is from makes even less sense than what I previously thought

How confusing this whole matter is becoming.  I thought it was strange that the song would be changed to other cities than liverpool as the original was based on 'in my liverpool home'.

I guess it would be like singing 'we can see you holding hands' to everybody rather than just brighton.

if there was another gay town with a football team then that would happen, there isn't so it doesn't

football fans have always nicked and adapted songs hence the slum song being sung by all southern teams to any team conceived to be from a poor town (pretty much anything from brum up) who also happen to have 3 syllables in their name so it scans

Your right gatso, I don't know how logical arguments work. Let me have another try to explain my point.

Liverpool/everton used to sing 'in my liverpool home', in a way bragging about how great there city is.

'If you want a cathedral, we've got one to spare'

Football fans being the clever dicks they are adapted this song and changed lines to mock the cheeky scousers.

'Find a dead rat, and then think its a treat'

The song I funny because it is based on a liverpool song about there great city changed around to mock.

It was not created because football fans actually think liverpool people eat from bins.

You have clearly missed the point as have all other southern teams that sing along merrily without any idea of the reason the song was created.

My example about singing to brighton fans was a poor one, my apologies. Let me try and clear this up with a better example, this may help you further understand my point.

Liverpool fans often sing a song which goes a little like this,

'You'll never walk alone, walk on walk on, with hope in your heart...'

Etc etc.

Now as you may be aware unemployment in and around liverpool is stereotypical assumed to be high. A song that many football fans sing based on the same tune is,

'You'll never get a job, sign on sign on, with a pen in your hand as you'll never get a job'

Etc etc.

So as you can see people sing this song because it is funny for a number of reasons, firstly because it is to the tune of a song the liverpool fans sing, and secondly because of the funny message about unemployment.

Do all southerners sing this song to all northerners that eat out of dustbins and such like, or would that make no sense at all because the song is sang to liverpool fans because it is based on a song they sing?

Hope this has cleared everything up and we can all move on.

Kind regards

Sovietsong

Ps apologies for any gramatical errors, I'm writing this on my mobile phone!
