Equality Minister Harriet Harman said: "If people don't want to have a sleazy lap-dancing club in their neighbourhood, they shouldn't be forced to have one."

Lines like this make me totally sick to be honest.

What right does this ridiculous ugly twat of a woman have to call a club that she's never been in sleazy!!!

And as for what children might see on their walk home from school?!?!?!? Are there any lap dancing clubs that are actually open at the times when kids walk home from school?

What an idiot this woman is!!!

How do you know she hasn't been to one?

I must admit I wouldn't like a lap dancing club anywhere near my house.

Sorry that didn't come across quite right.

She is generalising that all lap dancing clubs are sleazy. She may well have been in a club and it may well have been sleazy but what right does she have to say that they are all sleazy?

Fwiw btw the Faliraki ones are by far the best Smiley

Not sure about lap dancing clubs but recently a swingers/sex club opened in Moldgreen, Huddersfield, close to a school ,infant &  jnr., school, it is open in the day, well at least the door is, not sure if the kids know what it is unless the parents tell them but also not too sure if it is placed in the most appropriate position. Each to their own i say, but i guess the locals have a say.

Wouldn't that have already been covered under the licensing laws that they're bringing strip clubs under?

From what I understand a strip club's license is currently the same as a bar or club. They are changing the law so that they become a place of sexual something or other. Can't remember exactly. I'd guess whatever it is this swingers club would be under that category anyway so it won't make a difference there.

I don't want to sound like a prude here, I occasionally go to lap dancing clubs myself.

But knowing what some of the clientele are like, I think it's perfectly reasonable for the clubs to be in non residential areas, like town centres or industrial estates.

I really can't see why anyone would have an issue with this.

A sex shop opened near where I used to live. The locals complained that it was seedy and should be shut down. The owners had a little revamp and did the shop front out naming it the 'adult store' with a fancy green and white logo. All the windows were green so you couldn't see anything through them.... It won shop front of the year for south leeds! Brilliant!

To be fair all of the clubs I have been to have been in non residential areas so I don't see how they could cause a problem for anyone.

I wouldn't want a strip club opening next door to me but I also wouldn't want a bar, snooker club, church or anything other than a house next door to me.

If I lived in a town centre with pubs and bars and clubs everywhere I really wouldn't have an issue with a strip club. As long as they did neighbour's rates.....
