Great first game that. Classic rivalry. Baltimore need some quick receivers this off season, as that is what it came down to

They spent fortunes on Boldin and Housh during last off season.

And those two made the key drops in the 4th Qtr.

Yes, but neither are blazing speed. When it came down to the crunch Steelers blitzed from everywhere as they did not fear Ravens speed on the outside.

Boldin's a possession guy, making it so galling that he made that bad drop. Ravens a really good team but more speed in the passing game makes them that much better

I think the window of opportunity just slammed shut with that loss.

Ages:

Ed Reed 32
Ray Lewis 35
Derrick Mason 37
TJ Houshmandzadeh 33
Kelly Gregg 34

That's alot of talent coming to the end of their career, especially if next season is not going to happen.

I agree

Baltimore have drafted tremendous young talent on the OL and DL in the last 3 years..Oher, Yanda, Ngata and Suggs is a brilliant pass rusher...but ageing in the secondary and the skill positions as you say

It's what makes it a great sport, all the teams have to constantly rebuilld and refresh. Ravens have to do a big one now whilst the likes of Kansas etc are set to have a run having had 4-5 years of high draft picks to restock

Was Donte Stallworth even active tonight?

I don't remember seeing him once.

has hardly done a thing all season. 7 catches I think from memory.

Must be a complete headcase if a team so short of speed on the outside won't use him, ever

This might be the best performance I've ever seen by a QB in a playoff game.

He's money, and has been behind a terrible OL for two years too

and, 21 teams passed on him in the draft, allowing GB to pick him that year.

Inexact science, spotting talent!

Also shows the benefit of sitting on the bench learning the pro game for a couple of seasons.

Where did he feature on the Tighty draft board?

I think Alex Smith could have been a great QB.

He is super intelligent, athletic and has a great arm.

If he had the 2-3 seasons on the bench learning behind Favre or someone similar he could have been all pro I reckon.

this is true

I only mention that he went 22nd as he was predicted for ages to be be drafted first, went to the draft in NY aand sat there very publically, cameras watching his discomfort while team after team passed him up. Eventually GB who with Favre had no immediate need for a QB took him. That's forward planning, which 5 years later could well take them all the way

accordng to one of my twitter fellas

Teams that most regret passing on Aaron Rodgers in 2005: Cleveland #3 (Braylon Edwards), Tennessee #6 (Pacman Jones), Lions #10 (Mike Williams)...

Sounds a bit like the way Marino was drafted, he fell right to the bottom of the 1st round. Shula actually phoned up his coach at University of Pittsburgh to ask what he had missed, that everyone else seemed to know.
