Why is renting dead money?

That's such an old fashioned thought in my opinion but it seems to still be stuck in people's heads.

You can probably rent a 150k house for £500 per month.

To buy it you need to borrow £120k and also stump up 30k.

You'll be paying 5% or so interest which is £6k per year or £500 per month.

That 30k could also be invested earning you 5% or £150 per month.

Kind of negates the whole 'dead money' thing.

Admittedly the house should be an appreciating asset but I doubt it'll ever be like it has been over the last 10 or 15 years.

I know estate agents say it will but they'll say anything to get you to buy a house.

10 or 15 years ago the numbers were very different but that's just not the case any more.

Until you've got a good chunk of money behind you or decide to revert to the 'normal job' life I wouldn't even consider buying. It just won't work.

Pretty much 100% I will have to rent, I just think surely it'd be better to be paying a mortgage whereby you finish up owning the property instead of paying roughly a similar amount to rent a property, thus paying someone elses mortgage for them. Just always how I've looked at it.

Such a cruel game, somehow I managed to continue off from yesterday and just couldn't win a showdown when it matterred. I lost so many 70/30's and 80/20's for the world deep it just didn't seem real, but sadly it is. Add to that I'm just never managing to bink when I get it in behind and simple outcome is the results as they are; which is a 2.4k downswing which sucks a lot and is a pretty fukn brutal start. I've went through a ton of HH's, if you haven't used wiz before it marks a hand with a "x" if it thinks you've misplayed it, obv sometimes ranges wiz gives opponents are wrong but as well as going through one HH a day in depth I've also been flicking through about 10 that I've went deepest in just too look at the mistakes it points out. In all those that I've looked at I found one actual mistake where I missed a good spot to shove which can obv happen and a few marginal spots that are fine either way.

I really wish variance would fuck off and leave me alone for a little while, go and pick on someone else you bully, I've paid my dues for a while imo. I'm now down just under $1k and my make up is $3.8k overall. Hoping at the very least I'll be out of make up by the end of the year.

Shame I couldn't have acted like the old me just for this weekend and went and got pissed all weekend, nevermind. Deez swings.

One thing I keep thinking is thank fuck I played on Thursday lol.

To quote the good old Del Boy, "This time next year..." Smiley

The following post is for geeks only, the rest look away now.

I took a look at tourney reports in HEM just to see $evadj figures as although I know I'm running bad (might copy that somewhere to save me keep typing it) I like to look at this when I'm in a downswing, obv never look when I'm winning, why would I Smiley

So overall the figures are +$249190 - +$EV adj 671835. So I've ran close to half a million below ev (yeah I know, pretty desperate rounding up attempt)

However, it gets much more interesting than that

These numbers can sometimes be skewed just by running bad hu/3 handed in one or two spots too make things look worse than they are and in truth you aren't really running bad.

Well...

BB30000 +$199615 +$EV adj 265511 which therefore obv means I got unlucky in a spot hu.
BB20000 +$407069 +$EV adj 57296   so at this level I've ran way above expected value.
BB16000  -$383295 -$EV adj 200550
BB12000  -$194735 +$EV adj1486809 this is mostly 4-5 handed and I've ran way below ev here and obv finishing 5th over a 1st or 2nd can really damage your winrate

So as you can see I've actually ran above ev hu which shows that I'm running worse than overall results would suggest in the latter stages of these which is really hurting my winrate.

Hope my fellow geeks enjoyed that, well I'm not sure I am a geek, but I definitely have geek tendencies. I guess that sentence right there probably tells it's all, rofls.

PS: Hope Longy or MC don't come along and say I'm talking bollocks haha.

Been a while since I took a good look at the EV stats too.  But from memory, don't they just show how you run in AI confrontations?

If it doesn't show you all the times you failed to get paid with  flopped monsters, butchered premiums etc or all the times you lost more than you should have through the streets, then it doesn't really make it worth looking at.  In fact, it could be harmful to players thinking they are "running bad" when in fact they are getting a ton of great spots and not playing them optimally?

Do you reckon online players understand what variance really is?

Nothing to do you with specifically just asking Wink

I dont think I'm running bad because hem says so, I think I'm running bad because I'm losing a very high % of crucial pots whether I'm 80/20 70/30 flipping or behind. Also I would say AI confrontations are pretty important in SNG's deep when everyone has circa 10-15bbs and it's push/fold. I agree with you that some players find themselves in good spots and aren't playing them profitably, I'm not in that category though.

I asked myself the following question yesterday and just can't decide on an answer.

If you could be on one television show for one episode only either still running or finished what would you choose ?

At first I thought I'll be shrewd and pick something where the episode is an hour long instead of 20 minutes so to save that issue lets say the episode will be an hour long episode.

I'm currently deciding between : 24/Sunny in Philadelphia/The US Office or The Soprano's. Might think of something else though.

So what would you choose ? So tough to pick imo.
