In tonight's Sherlock, Mr Holmes says the line "Why this particular Grenadier?"

The guardsman he is discussing is clearly a Welsh Guardsmen (5 button blocks and a white and green plume in the bearskin)

Surely they can't have made such a basic error?

however, when he says this he has at this point only read an email, not seen or met the guardsman (as the viewers have).... so grenadier is probably a reasonable default assumption, no?

Is that from wiki, or have you rolled that out from memory in under 2 mins? Cheesy

I'm afraid none of that information will ever register with me, unless Crystal Palace change their kit to something similar.

It is a possibility, definitely.

They might be the oldest regiment in terms of serving the Crown (Coldstream Guards used to serve Parliament so there is dispute over who is really older), but I'd imagine a Welsh Guard would not want to be called a Grenadier.

I'd also be amazed if the soldier hadn't included his regiment in the email. How else would they have known where to go? Seems more likely it was a continuity error created by a late change in the wardrobe than anything else. At least to me.

balance of probability would be another way of wording it - but the margin would be too fine to call it on this I think

Just saw the end of an old episode of Bullseye.

For the uninitiated - or anyone under 28 - the last game is that the final pair have six darts to get 101 or more to win the grand prize.

Non-dart player always goes first. Up steps yer man...Tony Green calls them out:

"Twenty

That's in One

And Twenty gives you 41"
.

Ok, so this is the lowest total whereby the club darts player in the pair can just hit three singles to win. Three treble twenties and they win the grand prize. Easy.

Twenty...

Twenty...

Five!!

He had the Mardle Drift at the last minute!

And they would have won a speedboat to take home to Batley as well!

Brutal.

Sorry don't watch telly but saw this.

Back in the day all sorts of infantry units had 'grenadiers', who were specialist soldiers used for throwing grenades.

Absolutely.

Did I make this up or did the grenadier guards take the name grenadier and the army decided to call any new explosive infantry "bomber"?

I only ask out of interest.

FWIW, as much as I play my face about it, this stuff doesn't actually affect my enjoyment of the show. It was just something I weirdly noticed and it's a bit like spotting Gail Platt having had her hair cut between scenes in Corrie.

I was exactly the same with the London Underground errors in the first episode.

Sunday's Sherlock seems to be getting a right pasting in comments on the internet, which I can't understand. I thought the first half was tremendously funny, and then the actual Sherlocking at the end was very good.
