Man Down....................... Juvenile, ridiculous, absurd, slapstick humour.

I love it.

I absolutely love it.

poverty porn.

all these programmes such as benefit street, roma gypsies on benefit, cant pay we take it away, evictions are us etc. pretty sure these are just to make people gloat and laugh at those in an unfortunate position.the only people they seem to show is the full time pisstakers who only want to milk whatever they can get.

i was going to start a thread but pretty sure it would just fade out to bottom of page so i decided to post here.

i work long hours to pay my way,but i have spent years on benefit when i was younger, and i really regret how much of my life i wasted. that does not mean people should make these crappy, ill informed programmes.

all they do is paint a significant section of the population in a way that is generally quite far away from reality.

Channel 4 and Channel 5 seem to now almost exclusively deal in 'thank god you are not this person' TV programmes. It is disgusting I agree. Sadly these shows outrage people and people like to be outraged.

There is always an element of ‘poverty porn’ to these types of programmes and it was no different for the majority of this series. Last night’s episode, however, was about community and how people pull together. There was nothing voyeuristic, a large part of the episode was a family dealing with loss. I found it very moving.

They don’t only show pisstakers either. There are plenty of them on the show but this time around they had a lady who looked after her disabled son, a guy who was just completed addled from drug addiction etc. It felt more balanced for this type of show.

Been watching 'It's Always Sunny', this weekend.

Wasn't overly impressed with the early episodes, but it has gotten better as the season goes along, and the last few episodes have been excellent.

On the gameshow ep now, and it's the best yet.

Just completed the first 2 seasons of The Wire. First season was excellent, second started off too slowly but finished well.

What can I expect for the remaining 3 seasons?

2 is my favourite, a bit different than the rest

one of the good things about the wire is it stays consistently excellent

doesn't run out of steam, writing good all the way through

quite jealous that you still have three seasons to do!

specifically you have property, schools system, media to come as themes in and around the drugs business themes

I've seen loads of comments on how good this was but somehow I remember this when it first came but but got it confused with another show that wasn't v good so swerved it until last weekend. Glad I did as was getting bored with my revisit to Twin Peaks.

Season 2 is widely considered 'the slowest'. It's not at all bad it's just slower than people are used to. The 5 series taken as a whole are just absolutely fantastic. Absa-bloody-lutely fantastic.  I'm so jealous of people who get to watch them for the first time.

I've got about 20 shows to watch, but am steadily gearing up for a Wire rewatch, given the chat going on today...

Done most of them, I think.

In fact, I'm pretty sure I've done them all.

Better make sure Smiley
