Got some great news yesterday.  Well the good news started on Tuesday and just got better yesterday.

The girls have their mother's teeth.  Sarah more so than Sinéad.  Loads of teeth and not enough space for them.  Took Sarah to the orthodontist clinic in Cork City on Tuesday to find out if she'd qualify for free treatment.  When Sinéad went they told us the guidelines had changed but as she'd been on the waiting list so long they'd slip her into the programme.  Their guidelines are based on the state of your mouth/teeth.

With Sarah there was no question.  She more than qualifies, poor kid.  That was the good news.  Saves us at least 3k in fees.  The only downside being the waiting list is three years long!  Good thing we had her seen early.

So yesterday I'm going about the business of sorting things around the house for Ger's visit.  Here's a free tip for ya.  Think twice before buying a large white leather sofa if you've lots of kids running round the place and two large dogs.  Managed to wash it down in just under two hours.  Was a new record for me.  Anyway, the phone rings.  It's the orthodontist crowd in Cork.

"We'd like to see Sarah next week."

"But you already saw her yesterday."

"Yes, I know.  But we'd like to see her again."

"For fun or for like real live treatment?  I thought there was a three year waiting list."

"Consider this an early Christmas present.  She's been bumped to the top of the list."

Turns out the specialist saw her x rays and said she's not to wait as there's too much work to do.  I could have told them that.  In fact I did.  Kind of.  Didn't want to upset the apple cart by being too forceful at the time.  Waiting lists have a habit of extending themselves if you piss certain people off.

Sent Sarah a text with the great news right after I got off the phone and she's over the moon!

We have some experience of hospital waiting lists so we know what a result that is.

We also have some experience of white leather sofas...

For noobs like me who is Ger and whats his reltionship to you? Brother?

Ger is The_duke on blonde.  He's one of my closest friends and like a brother to me, but we're not related.  Granted people who don't know us always assume we're related in some way or other due to the close friendship.  He's larger than life and has a heart of gold.

How do ye keep them so clean?  I've tried everything and so far the best was Napisan and hot water but they don't sell it here any more.  Went mad with a bottle of cif and hot water yesterday.

Mrs Red or one of the girls used to clean it constantly.

So, I bought them a black one instead.......

Took long enough to get the damn thing delivered.  Don't think I'd have the will to wait so long for a black one.

Do us a favour and ask them what they used on the white one.

I give it a wee wipe down all the time.  But it gets an overall scrubbing about every two weeks.  Sometimes worry that I'm washing it too much with the wrong things.  It's a pain in the backside for sure, but do kinda like it and would like to keep it nice as long as possible.

I can give you one tip. If you dye your hair, wait until it dries before sitting on the sofa....

The eagle has landed safe and sound.  We took a wee detour or two before arriving at mine and none of the stops involved a pub.  By 3pm it was clear he was suffering so off we went to the local degen pub for his pint of the black stuff.  Plan was to be home for 5:30 so I could finish sorting dinner and we managed it bang on time.  Go figure.

Dinner is shite according to Sinéad.  We've not tested it yet, but we're after drink so reckon complaints will be limited...if at all.

Next stop Martin's pub by 8pm to get ready for the pub poker.  €20 FO where ya can throw out the rule book, the 'how to' book and just about any other book ya ever read on Hold Em.  It's tilting at the best of times.  But we're in merry mode and can hang at the bar if we get knocked out.  Win win either way.  Thank god the girls get themselves up in the morning for school.  I've a feeling it's going to be a late night!

PS  Sarah is currently kicking his arse at poker dice.  But that's to be expected.  Some day he'll learn not to take on the kid.  lololololol

Oh yeah!  Cassie did her usual of heading for her comfort spot in the sitting room when Ger first landed but it didn't take him long to win her over.  She's already strolling round the place wagging her tail with him.  Well, he's not wagging a tail but ya know what I mean.

Except for when I started cooking dinner.  She has a favourite spot...right in front of the cooker!

Off we went to the pub poker.  I've not been there in nearly a year.  The two lads walked in all confident with their game and I just sat down quietly hoping not to be first out.  Should have done a last longer with the lads as not only did I outlast them...this wee chicka won the lot.  Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii   Takes skill to jam with 56 soooooted and bink.  Can't be taught.  lololol

Blurry photos added to the posts above.  More blurry photos to be added in a bit.  Have decided blurry photos are the sign of a great week-end.

So the crew had a surprise 40th birthday party for me...and Ger was in on it.  I'm not actually 40 for another week and a bit, but it deffo wouldn't have been the same without Ger there.  Delighted they worked it around his visit.

Saturday started out tame enough.  We went out to watch the rugby in one of the locals.  Then we headed home for a bite to eat and a quick freshen up before the night out.  Except the lads insisted we hit every pub in the village before ending up at Martin's.  I kept up with them just about, but it prolly wasn't the best plan of attack considering what faced me in Martin's.

Turns out the kids and a couple of neighbours were running ragged putting up decorations, delivering food and cake and had all sorts going on in Martin's.  Only they had to make sure the coast was clear of me while they were at it.  By the time we got there, I was already in 'merry mode' and every time I turned around there was another 'birthday drink' shoved into me hand.  Thank god we only hit 40 once because I'm getting too old for that carry on!  lol

I was thrown into bed from the minute I got home while various friends had a bit of a house party going on in the kitchen for the night.  Woke around 8:30am to find them still drinking and having a great laugh for themselves as the first of two huge fry ups were cooked.  Once the first lot were fed, one of them made his way up to Ger's room and tucked in alongside Ger!  Didn't take poor Ger long to high tail it out of bed and make his way down for round two of the fry ups.

Once we had some bit of order in the kitchen again, it was time for a quick shower and another tour of the village for 'the cure'.  A neighbour carried Ger to the airport for his flight home.  Don't think he'll ever complain about my driving after that crazy Sunday morning.

All in all a great week-end and I would've been abso gutted if he hadn't been here for it.  So thank you Ger and thanks to all the crew on this side for organising it.  xx

More blurry photos to follow.

Soooooooo wish I was going over for that, but my temporary passport ran out and I didn't send off for the full one in time.  Can't budge until it lands.  Sigh.  Another week or two and I should be good to go again.

You'll have a blast with that crew and very best of luck with the poker while you're there!!!
