And about 90 minutes or so later we were both out.  Sighhhhhh.  Not sure what happened to Ger, but I raised pre with a pair of Jacks and got one caller.  Flop came 8 high rainbow.  I bet, he raised all in.  Knew he thought I was at it again because I'd just sat down after another 20 minute walk about.  Figured him for maybe A8 or summat because from what I'd seen, he really liked his rag Aces.

Wasn't far off...he'd called with  (as ya do apparently).  Turn and river were running hearts to give him the flush.  He had me covered and that was that.  Least I didn't go loopers on the guy like his poodle friend had done with me earlier.  Just smiled, shook his hand and said "Ah well...good luck everyone.  I'm off to the bar."

Yeah it was frustrating for a few minutes because I really thought I had this one in the bag.  Was playing well, stayed off the drink and my reads had been pretty damn good up to that point for the little bit of time I'd been there.  Just wasn't meant to be.

So that was that on the poker front.  The rest of the week-end was a mixture of chilling and madness and I had an absolutely brilliant time with most excellent company.  We headed back for Liverpool airport around 8am Monday morning where I caught my flight home and was thrown down on me sofa by 4:30 that afternoon.

And that's the lot when it comes to the Newcastle report.  Mostly because 'you had to be there' for the rest.  As Ger would say...priceless.

Hope you all had a great week-end too.  xx

Yuck.  We were both playing really well too.  You looked so focused and everything.  Sigh.  We'll get 'em next time.

With the footy done and dusted, it was time to dust ourselves off at the hotel with showers and a change before heading to the casino for the first of the team events.

A few lead ups to the event - Glenn (Bigfella) started it with this...

Then Ger came out with this one...

I was playing for the Ireland A team which had Ger Smyth Jr., myself, John Murray (Captain) and Brian Frew

Ireland's B team had Ger Smyth Sr. (Captain), Maxine McKinlay, David Pilkington and Des of the Duffy's

How the feck does Ger have that picture, I did a double take.

He has a habit of getting into, ummmm...'situations' of sorts.

At an APAT not too long ago he pulled off a few party pieces in the same week-end.  First was to lock himself out of his room in the middle of the night.  He thought he was heading for his loo.  Was the hotel corridor instead.

Unfortunately this now left him with two problems.  A)  He had no key to get back in and B)  He happened to be starkers at the time.  With no choice, off he went down to reception to ask for a new room key.  Pretty sure the rumour of them asking for ID from him was just a hysterical rumour, but the rest of the tale is definitely true.

Later on in the same week-end he decided he'd avoid the misfortune of the previous night by hitting the sack earlier.  Said his good nights and made his way for the lift.  Sweet dreams Jack.

Two hours later, the rest of the crew decided to hit the sack as well.  When the lift doors opened, there was Jack sound asleep on the floor.  But at least he was dressed this time...

At least you didn't steal any last vestiges of respect by recounting the Coventry lift incident.

I had a lesser lift problem in Newcastle. I was on the 4th floor but the lift refused to go beyond the 3rd - FMLL

I think there is a theme here - I remember that hotel in Nottingham where the door opened behind me when you got to my floor. I was in that lift for a long time going up and down pressing the button 'door open' and it was silently opening behind me.  I only realised when someone got on the lift behind me. Scared the
S**t out of me when someone seemed to apparate into the lift behind me.

LMAOOOO!!!  Yeah, I remember that.

Lifts with a front and a back door should be banned imo.  They make us all look like eejits at some point or another.  Just happened to be your turn that night.

Jack's managed other lift tales, but I've abused him enough for now so we'll let him off with the rest.  Never fear.  He's lots of trips throughout the year so I'm sure a new instalment will be unavoidable at some stage.  He's consistent that way.
