Got the train home from London today.

The train before mine was either cancelled or delayed and the train I was on was massively overcrowded.

It was standing room only for latecomers.

Except..

A couple had four tickets and reserved seats for themselves and two friends for the entire journey from London to Inverness.

However the friends never showed up and this couple stationed thmleves on the outside of the four seat round a table and steadfastly refused to let anyone else sit down because they had bought tickets and reserved these seats.. so why should they be uncomfotable with people stting next to them?

So do you think this is fair enough?

I'd have let someone have the seat, seems pretty tight to me.

Actually noone suggested this, and it is probably the best solution.

But believe me there were some very very angry people on the train, it looked like turning to violence at one stage.

Selfish

I cant even begin to think of how socially inept and miserable someone would be to deny people the seats. I bet the wankers dont say please or thank you either.

Lets say I am socially inept and miserable so I don't want to sit next to anyone on a train so I book out 4 seats. Why should I then give up my bought and paid for seats because the train is busy?

Tell them to GTFO - you can only reserve one seat per person. If their friends aren't on the train, they lose the seat reservation.

I think it's petty and ungenerous. Selfish is a good enough word, given its a packed train

If they paid for the seats and had the tickets rather than their friends then it's up to them what they do with it. If nobody offered to pay for the seats then i think it's fair enough. I probably wouldn't have the balls to say no to people though.
