Its the premier league, there is more than one league known as the premier league so we clear this up by saying English premier league, or EPL.

I don't understand the problem.

It's THE Premier League though. It's never been the English Premier League. The Scottish have a premier league but as it's not THE premier league they have to call it the Scottish Premier League hence the acronym "SPL". That's the name of their league. We don't call it the Scottish Premier League to distinguish between that league and our own we call it that because that is the league's name.

WTF? lol

Why would that be a wind up. It's the Premier League. Never has been the English Premier League the Scottish Premier League on the other hand is the Scottish Premier League, it's never been called the Premier League.
It's like calling somebody somebody called Joe, Tall Joe just because he's sat in a room with somebody called Bobby-Joe

Incorrect.

The Premier League was formed in Scotland in 1974 and was known simply as the Premier League when the league set up was refromatted from the old Div 1 and Div 2. The EPL or Premiership was formed in 1991 or so. The SPL was formed in 1998/99 when the top teams broke away from the Scottish League.

Wasn't it the Premier Division in Scotland back in the 70's? In 1992 the FA Premier League was formed. It's flagship competition was then called the Premiership but it has always been the Premier League.
It's not dellusions of grandeur and it's not even a big deal i just don't see why people add English on the front when there aren't 2 premier leagues there is a Scottish Premier League and a Premier League. As i mentioned before just like there is The Open and The US Open. WSOP and WSOPE. The FA and the FAI.
It's just calling something by it's proper name.

lol talk about delusions of grandeur FFS!

Livescore call it English Premier League
Xscores call it English Premier League
Bet365 call it English Premier League
PP call it English Premier League
BBC.co.uk/sport/football even call it English Premier League!

The only people who don't are people that think the English top competition is far superior to the others to be using the familiar term 'League', and wish it to be known as the premier'ship'

Stop listening to the Media, get over yourselves.

Its the EPL, not the P

It's the same as golf isn't it. We have The Open and the Americans have their version - The US Open. That's not a nickname we've given it to distinguish between the two that is it's name.
Also in Poker, America have the Word Series of Poker and Europe has the World Series of Poker Europe. I haven't yet seen anybody feel the need to add US onto the end of WSOP.
Would almost be a good point, except where your examples fail to use a country prefix, is because they came first, The "British" Open was the first Open for example,  the SPL was the first league to use the word Premier, way back in the 70s.  Flushy is right, using EPL makes it perfectly clear to everyone what you're refering to.
