It's a good photo. Would have needed a flipping long lens to get close enough if it were alive. A Monster!
was on my phone, i was quite impressed with the pics myself tbh.

Alarm escalation
Hornets, like many social wasps, can mobilize the entire nest to sting in defense, which is highly dangerous to humans. The hornet alarm pheromone is used to raise alarm of nest attack and to identify prey, such as bees.[5] It is not advisable to kill a hornet anywhere near a nest or fag packet, as the distress signal can trigger the entire nest to attack. Materials that come in contact with pheromone, such as clothes, skin, dead prey, or hornets, must be removed from the vicinity of the hornets nest. Perfumes and other volatile chemicals can be falsely identified as pheromone by the hornets and trigger an attack. It is not advisable wear these things around hornets.

I have a squirrel living in my garden, I'll try & get a pic
Bloody hell Dewi, no point in us trying to help you identify it now, you have told us what it is already
You told us yours was a wasp in the OP and it turned out to be hornet.
Who knows what's actually living in Dewi's garden? It is Wales after all.

Thread would get interesting if the squirrel got twatted with a newspaper and had photo next to fag box.

Kev, clearly you need to tell us if it's a 10 Deck or 20 Deck pack of Fags, to paint a true picture of the size of the little fellow?

Could have been worse
wiki
* 1.0 Sweat bee: Light, ephemeral, almost fruity. A tiny spark has singed a single hair on your arm.
* 1.2 Fire ant: Sharp, sudden, mildly alarming. Like walking across a shag carpet and reaching for the light switch.
* 1.8 Bullhorn acacia ant: A rare, piercing, elevated sort of pain. Someone has fired a staple into your cheek.
* 2.0 Bald-faced hornet: Rich, hearty, slightly crunchy. Similar to getting your hand mashed in a revolving door.
* 2.0 Yellowjacket: Hot and smoky, almost irreverent. Imagine W. C. Fields extinguishing a cigar on your tongue.
* 2.x Honey bee and European hornet: Like a matchhead that flips off and burns on your skin.
* 3.0 Red harvester ant: Bold and unrelenting. Somebody is using a drill to excavate your ingrown toenail.
* 3.0 Paper wasp: Caustic and burning. Distinctly bitter aftertaste. Like spilling a beaker of hydrochloric acid on a paper cut.
* 4.0 Pepsis wasp: Blinding, fierce, shockingly electric. A running hair drier has been dropped into your bubble bath.
* 4.0+ Bullet ant: Pure, intense, brilliant pain. Like fire-walking over flaming charcoal with a 3-inch rusty nail in your heel.[3]
My next door neighbour got stung by a wasp a few years ago>anaphalactic shock>15 mins later it was gg
