Rochdale again. Against Brentford, finished 1-0 to Brentford and ended Rochdale's play-off hopes.
Poor game, great season for Rochdale though.

Monday 25th April
Had the saturday off over Easter, but went down to Shrewsbury to watch them v Accrington Stanley. Good chance one of these may be in League 1 next year so it was really to see whats about, especally as League 1 will be Northern dominated next year (praise the lord), no Brighton, Saints, Dag and red, plus Bury, Preston, sheff utd, scunny, chesterfield are all in.
0-0 this finished, was too hot for footy, should have been at a BBQ somehwere.
Also, forgot to take any photos, peeved with that, will have to take one of the ticket

Sat 30th April
This was big game for 2 small fish, Accrington Stanley v Barnet. Stanley needed to win and cement a play off place, barnet to stay up (whcih we now know they did).
Finished 3-1 to Stanley, hat-trick for Jimmy Ryan who made the L2 team of the year, good little player, ex-Liverpool youth. John COleman done wonders there, would love them to made L1 for his sake.

Sat 7th May
Went to preston on saturday to see them against Watford, nice atmosphere at the game, neither side with anything to play for, although Brown and Mackay ensured both teams were well up for it.
Plenty of squad numbers in the 30's and 40's for Preston, several youngsters all did well.
They may do well next year I think, they've had an extra month or 2 to prepare knowing there fate really from Feb onwards.
Noticed earlier Sheff Wed 5/1 faves with Skybet?!?!??!?!?!
WOW

Preston was really to cover bases incase Colchester draw them early next season.
They got caught out a little with Exeter and Sheff wednesday this season.

what does a part-time scout do off-season?
are you renewed season by season?
Ward secure at Colchester?
Do you get involved in the turn over of players this time of year? recommendations on out of contract players etc?
What do I do now? Nothing really, lol
Dont think I'll be going to any play-off games, on TV anyway so nothing that important to cover.
Not renewed as such, but had a chat last week about plans for next year so am wanted as such.
Ward I think is secure, top 10 was the aim and came 10th, budget likely to be cut though, same as nearly everyone, but plans not to lose any of the scouting side, hes a big believer in prep etc.
Can make some recommendations on players out of contract etc, but to be honest targets and players moving on is sorted in feb/march time.
I did an inter toto cup once in the middle of June, but unlikely now to have a game until July really.

Your play-off treble would be?
Oh and 5/1 for Wednesday is hilar. Mellor has gone back to Preston.
Miller released but O'Connor offered a new deal.
Standard of players in the squad is just depressing.
Think Brown will do well with Preston (especially if they have Mellor) but expect P'boro or Huddersfield to be favourites depending on who wins the play off.

I don't think Mellor will stay at Preston, earning too much, think they drastically want to reduce the wage bill.
Depending who Utd get as manager I think I would happily have them over Wednesday in a season match bet.
Play-offs, think Forest will do it from the Champ, Huddersfield L1 (think they learnt a lot from the 2nd leg defeat to Millwall last year). Shrewsbury probably the best team in L2 ones, but backing Accy with my heart and Stevenage with my wallet.

Have you seen or heard reports of Jeff Schlupp, yet?
Currently at Brentford, on loan from us
Meant to be our next big thing, as much as we do big things....pacey winger
I know as much as you, in that he's scored a couple and impressed so far. I didn't see the cup final, but Colchester play Brentford in 2 weeks so will get a chance to see them/him soon maybe.
I am seeing Brentford, tomorrow at Rochdale, so will be able to report on Mr Schlupp.
Report please! :-)

If thats any help! Notice he got another at Hudd on sat, think he sat out 2/3 games in the middle of his spell, Rochdale being one of them, but impressive either side of those couple of games

Enjoyable thread this season. [ ] Delighted Wednesday will be a part of L1 again so that this is as interesting next year.
Are you usually ready for a break come May time or do you wish it was all year round?
Do you switch off till pre-season or will you be up all hours getting your football kick from Copa America?

Ready for a break to be honest, I've done 10-15 games less this season than normal, probably only 7-8 midweek games all season whereas that would normally be 20. But its felt tougher than ever this year with time at a premium with the little boy, some days when hes being difficult its quite hard to justify going and leave him with my girlfriend again, when shes been with him 5 days per week as it is.
Happily have 6-7 weekends with no footy now. Never really been into Copa America to be honest, but do like to keep up with ANY footy news, was trawling through all the lower leagues yesterday to check out there play-off games etc, see whos up/down.
