Given the recent embarrassing issues relating to monies being owed/repaid, would it not be a good idea to set up a more formal mechanism for this rather than the 'give it to me next time you see me' route'

Perhaps, John, but it came together quickly, & I have had a trusting relationship with most of these guys (Chomps & John in particular, but no money issues whatsoever with any of the others, either) for many years.

The original plan was that Chomps & I split the whole cost down the middle, so the fallback position remains that, & so even if the worst came to the worst, we'd be no worse off.

Might be worth looking into setting up something more formal for the next one.

Yes, it would make sense.

it was just all so "last minute", & I did a gentleman's deal with Chomps a few days ago which I was happy to accept as was.

Then, today I think (I'm a little confused, as a lot is going off right now) he wrote to me again & suggested that he or I start a Thread to try & get others to contribute, which made sense, & he did.

Really, I was stuck for £350+ at worst, so anything less than that is a sort of freeroll for me.

Really good to see the updates coming back, great work Tikay.

I'd like to pledge £50.

Is there any chance of the updates coming back again after Luton?

I really think as a community we can get these updates done for all the GUKPTs without any cost to blonde.

Really? At £1400 a piece?

Maybe at the cut down £450 there'd be a chance but you're relying on the updaters working at very low cost to get that. I wouldn't expect that to happen too often because it just wouldn't be fair.

Can't see it happening too often but would be great to see obviously. I'd like to pledge £50 but I can't cus I'm busto.

One day you might have a fifty again mate.

Until then please dont talk to me.

I think Cos meant volunteer updating as a community? Therefore no real costs.

Local people grab a laptop and camera and get stuck in. Means people busting their balls for a weekend for nothing but could work?

I'd love to get the broader updates service back up and running. Would benefit blonde a lot.

The reason it isn't currently active is purely financial.

For that to change we need to have more people supporting us by playing on DTD via us. Then there is a commitment from DTD (ie they are by then covering costs thorugh supporting us at a minimum) to help us get things back up and running. As it stands though we're not near that.

In the absence of that its easy enough to do a one off GUKPT for a local venue where expenses will be minimal, where the updaters will give a little bit of slack on pay and a small number of people will kindly chip in to help out as is the case for next week

Rolling that out across a venue where costs will be higher, lets say Blackpool GUKPT later this year, then it becomes tougher.

We can compromise on the £1400 figure by doing it one person but without trying to sound like a drama Queen a 4 day GUKPT on your tod is tough. Have done two, and its really tough.

Asking for people to do it voluntarily isn't really an option either.

At the same time as this we pay about £100 a day for an updater where the going rate through PokerNews for example is about 4 times that. Or was last time I heard

So I'd be the first to try and arrange a more comprehensive schedule of GUKPT updaters, or UKIPT updates or any non DTD updates if we had the funding to do it. In the realistic absence of repeated benefactors then the only real solution is to earn more money. Our way of earning more money is via DTD Online. Where we know most of you have issues playing.

I suppose we could speak to Alistair and Phil and team at AWOP. I also think the NutzTV do a great job. I suppose we could carry that feed, or try to work something out with them commercially but I happen to believe that the blonde updates..in their style, tone, content, readability, humour etc are pretty unique and worth trying to build back up at this stage. I'd be able to fast forward a number of months to achieving that if our revenue picked up though.

But it wouldn't actually save them money as they'd have to pay someone else for the service.

As a regular updater I can safely say that doing a solo job on an event with more than 150 people is horrible. Trying to keep up with the pace at the start is pretty much impossible unless you decide to just provide the most basic of updates. Updating "blonde style" on your own is a definite no-go, by the time you've written up 2-3 hands you've missed out on another 10-20 exits. Even at the start of a DTD event with 2 updaters, we still miss so much because unless you happen to be at a table when a big hand happens, you end up only getting 2nd or even 3rd hand descriptions from people sat at the table.

AWOP have invested a sick amount of money into producing nutz.tv and because of this, I often feel that their text based updates are basic, mostly because of the way they tend to get them (well, the way they got them last time I saw the Nutz guys in action, which was 2008), in that Phil Heald wanders the tables and commentates on big hands through a mic, which James Roberts and others listen to in the press room and copy to the forum. Their updates TV wise and live streaming are great, but for the forum to follow via a thread written down, I don't feel that is what Blonde needs.

AWOP forum updates suck. There's none of the blonde style feel to them. They're as basic as you can get. Their video feed is pretty pointless imo unless there's someone on the final you want to watch. And even then I'd rather just have a forum thread to refresh every now and then.
