Dont get the big deal tbh - Fabio is asked if Beckham is too old to play, Fabio says yes. I dont see where there is a story.
I don't want to sound rude as i respect your posts but i don't get this.
Just because the story can be simplified it doesn't mean it's not a story.
It's like saying "Roy asked Mascherano if he wanted to play for Liverpool. Mascherano said no. I don't see where there is a story"
One of England's most capped players who was in most qualifying squads and until his injury was set to go to the World Cup has now (for the 2nd time) been retired by an England manager. You don't do this. If he's too old you don't pick him.
He didn't just say Beckham was too old to play. He said he wouldn't pick him for a competitive game but wanted him to play one friendly to say goodbye. A player that has always said he will never retire from international football doesn't need or want a game to say goodbye as he's said he will always be available a game to say goodbye retires him and he said he wouldn't do it.
He could have been treated with a bit more respect imo. Call him and say you're looking at new players but if we need you we'll call you, been a great servant etc, maybe you could join us at the Euro's again to help the players as you have experienced big tournaments etc.
Don't tell him on ITV in the tunnel before the game. He didn't need to answer the question. Beckham wasn't fit so he could just have said "we will see".
Beckham's international career isn't a big story anymore but it's still a story, especially when it's linked to the actions of the under pressure England manager.
