Day 3 - My paralyzed dogSo growing up I never had dogs or any pets really. I used to play football most days in the park and whenever a dog came I was always the most scared, 12 years later and my friends are really bemused when I say I have 3 dogs as they are like "aren't you the guy who used to run away from dogs?"
When I met my girlfriend she had Basil already. Basil had a really bad accident when they came to Gibraltar, as she came from the cargo, they was allowed out of her "cage" and sprinted down the run way in 40 degrees with planes coming towards her, she was in a really bad state and was lucky to survive.
We moved to Spain shortly afterwards, I was now best friends with Basil, the most loving, loyal and amazing dog you could imagine. Our next door neighbour was 18 year old Spanish kid who was going to Valencia univesity in 1 week, he walked the streets looking miserable then we saw he had the most cute puppy with him. We went for "awws" and cuddles and eventually found out he was taking her to the shelter as he had to go to university and his parents didnt want to look after a dog. So obviously we took "Kira" in and 1 became two.

The girls got on absolutely amazingly and were true sisters, sleeping together, kissing eachother, eating together and never ever fighting.
Around 1 year later Ingrid had a friend who rescued a dog in Romania, she found the dog on the road with a broken back and couldnt walk. For those of you who dont know Romania there is thousands of stray dogs, if you go to a bus stop you will see 5 dogs for every one person. This dog, later to be named "Fate" by the Doctor was paralyzed for 2 weeks in the freezing cold and obviously the other dogs didnt allow her to have any scraps that were available.
Here she is as she was found:

The new owner was just fostering and couldnt commit to the huge huge commitment that is looking after a paralyzed dog. My gf decided to go to Romania and bring her back herself! So after a huge 48 hour nightmare travel she brought her back, the airport didnt want her to travel on board but there was no way she would manage travelling underneath.
I was either in Vegas, or somewhere which I couldnt cancel on short notice so I came back after 1 week since she was in the house and as I got in she ran (or more like, crawled) to me and licked my face off, we immediately fell in love together and have such a good relationship.
We began to feed her up every day and she became bigger and bigger she is now as healthy as she will ever be.
Things paralzed dogs struggle with
- They cannot walk, they have to crawl everywhere, really sad as she cant come on all walks with the family and feels really sad because of it
- She cannot pee herself, she needs to be voided
- Have to be really careful of disease as she is always on the floor
- Generally in pain and stuggling
Here are some pictures of her:

She is sat next to me right now, chewing a bone and loving life, one of the best things to have ever happened to me and I absolutely love her to bits. She will be with us wherever we go and she is a massive part of the family now. She even has her own fanpage!
https://www.facebook.com/HelpFateAParalyzedLittleDogRomaniaHer original foster home created it when looking for an owner and we update it with pictures as lots of people sent money to Romania initally for the operation/medicines etc.
People say having dogs is bad because lack of freedom/holidays etc, well I'd just say you have your 10 days of fun a year and ill have my 365 days of love with and for all of them.
