Blimey, good footy skills.
Something tells me in 10 years time Pads will be posting links from Blonde on a golf forum saying 'this was my time as a professional poker player'

haha I always hated that picture. I would have probably shared the article a lot more if it was me taking my Dad out on a muddy park!

I was in a similar situation with playing cricket, used to play for Durham County until U16 when i didn't make the Academy, just joined a team in August after watching the Ashes for the 1st time for 5 seasons since Uni and am loving it. Someone said it here "your a long time retired" which is even more true for footy than cricket.

Probably <2%. Maybe when i was younger it would have been on my mind a decent amount, but i guess thats part of the reason i stopped playing as poker was a bigger part of my life 3 or 4 years ago.

Yeah interesting, with football (no disrespect, totally different games) you basically have to have your mind on the game 100% or youre running about etc, with cricket I assume theres more time to yourself and maybe a time to consider things, was just wondering how much poker went into that time.
After football yesterday I had this really pleasent sense of balance. I felt like it was great I was doing something else and felt like poker was going to be really great and everything work out fine. A lot of the guys on the team work at IBM and they were complaining about the wages in Hungary and how its so low compared to everywhere else. Most of them ended up here because they have Hungarian girlfriends. The Italians are as dramatic and as Mama Mia as youd expect.

When im not actively doing stuff that isn't poker I don't think my mind dwells on the subject at all. I think with something as intense as poker it's pretty healthy to be able to completely switch off.

Play for a team who play on a Saturday?
Or just stick to 5 a side or something like that? Alternatively play these 4 weeks and see how you feel possibly play once every 3 weeks or something and alter your grind around that?
I used to play footy till like 12 and moved to play rugby still played for the school team but nothing else apart from that. Really the only things i had going for me were fitness (dont have that now), and my passing/distribution. Only when i was like 16/17 did i start playing 5 a side again and really struggled because i was not good enough on the ball although i could finish ok. But now 5 years down the line i love playing 5 a side but still deep down i want to play on a big pitch, i grew up trying to pass the ball like beckham/giggs etc love trying to play long balls. Really wish football was not full of idiots otherwise i would snap play sunday league football just after 8 years of playing rugby/cricket i realized i hate playing sport with idiots.
I also was lucky enough to grow up (till 12) playing on the nicest football pitch ive still ever played on to this day. The place we played at had a full time groundsman and if it had rained within like 24 hours of the game we were not allowed to play there frustrating at the time but meant the pitch stayed like a carpet. Was beautiful i used to remember seeing kids turn up and being like WOW its like Old Trafford pitch. Ahh miss them days!
I really like South American guys.
Southend not good enough for you in Edinburgh

We ended up finishing I think top 8 in the country.
Pretty funny article comparing me as perhaps the next Alan Shearer when I was 14-15ish? No idea why it says Im a centre half. Funny thing is we went to the park enxt to where I lived and I had to play football with my Dad, he was a big fan and I had to foul him, he didnt really find this amusing. The photographer rang up the next day and said Ive lost my camera lololol. So he came back the next day and we just did the trophy shoot.

Here is me at Southampton the next year, look at the guy two places to the left of me... Hes at Real Madrid and is the most expensive player in the world! Theo Walcott was in this age team as well although was always pushed through the ranks. Nathan Dyer, Leon Best, Dexter Blackstock, Adam Lallana and others all came through the same youth team, pretty insane.

Ended up back in the North East playing in front of huge crowds!

This progessed to Blyth Spartans here I am pre match playing at St James Park, my Dad sitting in the very same seat he sat every Saturday to watch Newcastle watching me out there, must be prettx surreal.

At University I was prepared for a really serious and gruelling league, the day I was picked for the university team (almost 2000 came for trials) I was excited, we met for an evening to discuss the seasons plans, but it was a tarpppp and it was my initiation night

And here I am "tied up" to another guy who had made the squad for the first time in the bottom left..

And here I am with all the robbers (new players) and policemen (2nd-3rd years)

I wisely decided not to play in my next years as it was all abit too much give me a B give me an A give me a N give me a T give me a E give me a RRRRRRRRRRRRR lets all have some Banter. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
After moving to PokerStrategy in Gibraltar I didnt play much at all, we had a big industry tournament where we ended up winning and I snatched the trophy for the winners photo

Wow...so good...you find something new about somebody every day
You obviously play football to a high standard so you
MUST
continue with this plus its easily accessible .
Even the best in the business needs things (other than poker ) to occupy his life , so things like football ,walking the dog , girlfriend , sex , days & meals out , social interaction etc etc can only help to give you balance.
Remember you only have one life so make the best of your younger years you mad man .
