Yeah hand 3 pretty interesting I think. I think flop peel is a little ambitious especially as if I'm peeling kj then I'm peeling my entire range. I would normally never ever 3bet kjs pre here I'd always just call almost always. When you 4bet I thought you could be light here because it was such a good spot for me to 3bet at the time (he was visibly tilted) and you're never going to cold call here I,don't think so I thought you would be capable of being light here. I didn't expect you to 4bet a range with no bluffs in. Not just for balance but just because its such a good spot to 4bet bluff. Anyway I think I would flat my entire range pre here (not everything that I 3bet but everything that I decided to continue with I would be flatting ie AA/kk/ak. S,I don't think I'm ripping it in ore very much hands that I'd want to rip it in with would be hands with poor visibility that don't realize their equity vs your range such as 22-88 but Id just peel all of those vs the opener.

On the flop I guess I felt that as the board progressed it would improve my perceived range more than yours and I expected you to have more a9/at and maybe even a4s hands than you suggest you would have had so I felt I could call and win it later a decent amount of the time whilst still you v regularly barreling kx run outs very often.

My plan was to check back every turn and jam every river except maybe an ace. I think itt shows I definitely was thinking about this on the flop rather than just lol peel as I checked back one of,the turn cards that is attractive for me to jam (over card that improves my equity and hits somewhat of my perceived range)

On the river I feel like I can almost never be bluffing I felt like you had ak and some ax hands that maybe turned into a pair or perhaps TT/JJ a v high % of the time and felt like I had a great bluff spot.

Thanks for posting your thoughts anyway, appreciate it, maybe I'm the worst Smiley

Btw hand 2 vs the devilish I absolutely expected some merge otf but expected him to check mot of his merges on the turn due to the size of the pot at that relative point of the tournament. I'm retry happy with my fold but understand why people would go,with it and don't think it would be a mistake.

Mmmm i stopped worrying about being balanced in live comps sometime around 2007.  Tbh the table draw has a lot to do with it - if there's no spots then i'm more likely to be light here i guess.
Basically part of poker is getting people to mis-perceive your range so if i'm never light in that spot but you expect me to be then that's good for me as you're working on a bad assumption.
Don't think it is a good spot to 4 bet light because you know that i know its a good spot, which in fact makes it a bad spot!
Playing mainly cash i used to go after every edge but i think part of tournament poker is navigating the field, i mean how can 4 betting you out of position be a lot better than just conserving my stack and waiting til i can play in position versus the weaker players.
Anyway you won a big pot with the worst hand so wp.

Main event day 2

Ww what a fucking grind that was today. Managed to get through to day 3 in the money with 113k coming back to 8k bb.

Such a long day of grinding. Think I played v good just had to really grind it out hard. Came with 160k and finishing with 113k feels kinda disappointing but you gotta be in it to win it.

81 paid and there's 63 left coming back tomorrow. Pretty tired, need to spin well tomorrow.

Folding the second best hand...

This week has been really weird. I'm typically a huge huge station. I don't believe people and I don't understand their lines and end up saying lol pot odds, I call. This week has been really different though.

On the high roller I had two really big hero folds vs devilish and yesterday in the main I had some biggish ones too.

Hand 1

Weak young reg makes it 4200 in low jack I peel button with Q9 spades around 120k effective at  1k/2k

Flop is

AQ9 ccx

He cbets 5200, I call. (Relevant history is I've been very aggressive and have v bad image, def fine to raise flop but I was intending on potting turn and river and repping missed fd wheras if I raise flop the pot is bloated and this weak guy would fold to an effective 80k,river,shove,or wte but always station two smaller yet still bigger bets)

Turn is

two hearts

He bets 7200

I decide to peel again, no raising range on this turn.

River is

K c

He bets 12k

The pot is now 55ish so getting ridiculous price but this guy just wasn't value cutting himself and had to fold

Hand 2

One guy who got the better of me all day was Chris Dowling I had v v v v few good hands for the duration of the day, literally card dead for,the entirety. This meant I had to,try and pick some spots but because he was good he was picking up on them and 3betting or peeling me.

I raise utg to 3500 at 800/1600 with ak ss (which felt like quads!) he 3bets utg1 to 7400 I call. 4betting is usually never an option here, vs him in particular it is probably fine but I still prefer to flat.

Flop

JQ4 ccx

I check, he checks behind.

Turn is 7x

I decide to bet. I feel like I can get all ak to fold, and he 3bet TT vs me previously so I can get 88-TT to fold whilst still having ok equity.

River is

K c

I check and he bets half pot. I'm just never good here and again have to reluctantly fold.

There was a bunch of other hands like this and basically my day went

1) extremely card dead can't find any hands at all
2) find a good spot,to raise/3bet to maintain my stack
3) I got it in kqhh v qtcc for 50k and he pings a straight
4) relentlessly floated and 3betted by Chris Dowling where I just have to continuously give up with lots of non equity hands
5) fold river with lots of,hands that feel like they should be very good hands (reviewed top pairs, trips, flopped 2 pairs) but most likely am beat

I did play one hand pretty interestingly too.

History is that this guy keeps telling the tabe I'm a lunatic and then I'm crazy when I was playing really tight. It was pretty weird. Ben Martin was opening onto a fishes big bling 9/10 times I did it once and he told me I was always raising this guys big blind.

I open to 10k at 2500/5000 with aces!!!!!! Utg

He peels his big blind

The flop is j2jr

Now this is a bird I'm checking back close to 100% with aces.

1) It's very unlikely I can get three streets of value here.
2) I can use bigger sizings later In the hand for value it's my entire range than I can on the flop
3) I allow him to pick up equity whilt not caring about him ever really going into the lead on the turn or river in terms of equity
4) getting check raised here would be a nightmare and he's seen me make some big folds so I Imagine he could either raise the flop as a hero and coffin me or lead turn and river for me to fold ace high as he was quite probey (holla pokertracker friends)

Turn is 5

He checks and I bet 10k

I feel like I should go small now to encourage ace high and king high hands to call. I feel like he would lead hands he doesn't feel like he has showdown value with like 89s etc so feel like he will call this bet quite often but may potentially hero fold to anything more than half pot. He called really quickly

River is 6

He checks and I bet 31k and he calls with a5

Some thoughts

So if I bet flop for 10k betting 30k on the turn would be extremely ambitious because he knows I'm setting up a 50k plus river bet and his general bluff catchers are going to be small pairs or ace high so it's extremely unlikely he will ever call then turn. A if I bet flop I have to bet like 10k, 16.4k, 37k. I feel like river gets hero folded alot and ott he may even fold knowing he could be facing a big river bet.

The main two, things are that 1) he can really have very few good bluff catchers on the flop but he can turn a pair and never ever fold. He can also pick up flush draws, straight draws and lots of,great equity cards vs my check back range which will look alot like ace high. 2) should I be worried about getting check raised? Is his too paranoid? I dont think so I feel like I can be out in a tough spot and because of the above coupled with the not wanting to get check raised its a good spot for me to chec, back and extract value later.

I will jump into the 6max and have a re entry if I bust today but looking forward to grinding this 14bbs very very hard.

Nottingham - The Finale

I went back to Nottingham and DTD today for day 3 of the main event as 60/63 players remaining. I didn't have any elected expectations really. I had 14bbs and w pretty underwhelmed about the whole thing and then thought, come on we're playing for 670,000 were not out of this yet.

I think as a cash game player in MTTs we have a disadvantage when playing 7-18bbs, moreso 7-13bbs. I do however think that we see spots and think outside of the box way better than MTT players, at least in general . The problem with this is that at times we can over complicate things and make very easy mathematical decisions too complex by trying to be fancy. I would absolutely prefer to play like that though, forever thinking, forever trying to find that edge and forever trying to enjoy this game that pans us so often.

I started the day by raising with the intention of raise folding but managed to either get it through or to get cbets through helping my stack. Chris Dowling was on my direct left being an absolute pain and opening 100% literally opening q2 utg vs 3 reshove stacks and relentless 3betting and post flop wars.

Hand 1

I decided to open cut off to 16k and he 3bet the button to 32k I was short with around 100k at 4k/8k.

Folding would leave me with 94k. Calling and losing would leave me with around 78k.

There was 9x1000 (antes) 4000+8000 (blinds) and 32000 + 16000 (our raising amounts) thus 9000+12000+48,000 = 60,000. If I call I have al,let exactly a pot sized shove left and because he's likely to be really light I can expect decent fold equity post flop but he's going to say "how much" in his cute Irish accent alot,of the time pre flop and calling it off. He can definitely have good hands ofc but a this time he had lost 5/6 big hands on the trot and it seemed as if he was steaming.

Anyway the flop is 865hhh and my q7hh doubles me up Smiley

I win a couple more pots vs him and then move to another table with Alex Goulder  and Jamie RUtherford amongst others. This was a very aggressive table, but it was amazing how much people were folding their big blinds. Somebody told me on the break they folded a5hh vs a button raise into their big blind and the general lack of defending was crazy.

I got very luck/very unlucky in a hand where I defended k6hh pre flop from the big and then decided to just call call on k6xxddxd board with some spidey senses going off, I'm contemplating folding the river vs this opponent and then the king comes and he manages to somehow check back 98 dd for a turned flush. Pretty insane check back by him and I felt Ike I lost 200k in that pot!

Hand 2

I had been reading the updates and Gary Banks had 3 bad bets AA/KK etc. he was moaning a little t the tab,e abut his luck and saying it was crazy.

Jamie who I had 10% in opened lowjack for a min raise off 300,000k at 5k/10k, Gary flat the hijac with 270k and I was on the button with AQ.

I contemplate my options, I ave 380,000k after chipping up with some nice steal, spots. I decide that Jamie is aggro enough to just 3b/5b here and it's unlikely banks has lattes anything that dominates me. With 75k worth of dead money it seems pretty trvivial.

Anyway I make it 59k, Jamie tanks and folds and Gary ants and jams. I snap hoping and somewhat expecting onto see 77-JJ very often but he flat queens and I lose a 650k pot which was huge at the to,e.

I was down to 100k but manages to get up to 300k again. I found lots of good spots to squeeze or steal pre flop after I double up. It folded to my sb with 6 big blinds and I jammed 88. The Internet qualifier took a long time to call with a6 which was ridiculous (he had big stack) and I won.

The blinds went to 10k/20k after the break and I was in the sb in the second hand in on 240,000

It,folded to my sb, and with the guy in the big blind who tanked for so long with a6 it's an obvious any 2 jam and unfortunately he had 99 and the firt cad was a 9 and I and my j2o sheepishly headed to,the rail.

Very sad to bust so deep. I feel like the field was very very soft and apart from Alex and a couple of others was really, confident that if we got some chips we could do some damage. But never mind it was good experience and a decent cash to add to the Hendon Mon.

I ventured over to the 6max and lost 2 bullets. The first one went in expectantly light n tabe sin melis/thewy/tony salmon with 64 on 432 with lots and lots of dead money.

I then got my second stack up to over 200k. I eventually got it in for a hue pot with 67ss vs this super spazzy guys a5o on q95ss where he just decided he couldn't fold in a 3bet pot. Tiltingly the board ran out 33 and he comes back tomorrow closets, the money with lots of betting disks and I don't. I guess that's the downside of tournament poker, in cash we would just continue playing and I'd usually up getting it all back and then some but in tournaments you have to shake hands, say good game and wish the gentleman luck!

It's been a very frustrating weekend. Losing pots in the high roller which felt very unlucky (kkvaj) busting the main event so deep and then busting the 6max in a really big pot against such a bad equity hand it feels like it could have been bigger. I would say that I feel like I've played good. I feel like I've hero folded way too much in so many spots and been wrong too often! I'm pretty happy about the spots that I've folded and been wrong and there has been plenty I've folded and been right too.

I'm not sure if I will play live poker too, often in the near future. I've missed a week of playing online. Not only is that time = money lost but I fall behind on supernova elite pace too. Really enjoyed the whole week though, it's been great. Met so many people who I got on great with and nice to see those who I don't see often, we've also managed a decent result in cash too therefore ill round this up with
